Re: Forget RED. Shoot Film

Sure, castles were designed with attacks against them in mind - high-end camera gear?...not so much. Actually, yes. Look at the edges of all camera gear.... That's going to take some time [....] ~:?) [....] and you will find that it is rounded wherever possible. I generally chalked that up to ergon...

Re: Forget RED. Shoot Film

This thing on the back of the Viper pictured above would more efficiently hold all the electronics needed if it were square... Yes but it will survive drops better if it has rounded ends. (That's why castle builders quickly learned to make the turrets and edges of their castles rounded, to better w...

Re: Forget RED. Shoot Film

When visually IDing film cameras on the street, don't be fooled by this tricky dick - http://www.cameraguild.com/magazine/0711/images/21.jpg Looks like a film mag on the back....but it's not ~:?) Funny thing, when miniDV cams became really good and shooting industrials on BetaSP cameras became more...

Re: Forget RED. Shoot Film

Also, shows like "Dexter" simply look like crap.....except for the high-speed shots [heh] - For the opposite, check out "Burn Notice" shot entirely on Super 16. Looks good, but you can definitely see grain even on sunny Miami outdoor shoots and of course its very noticeable in l...

Re: Forget RED. Shoot Film

Not that I know much, but I get into Manhattan quite a bit and often stumble across production crews working on something. And more often than not, they're using a film camera. Re: Forget RED. Shoot Film

I've worked in the broadcast television industry for 24 years and shoot a little film every now and then (35mm for TV commercials). I read constantly about the increasing use of the RED cameras for features and TV shows and one thing keeps popping up: difficult workflow. Also, shows like "Dext...

Re: Super8 to Cineon (was: 100D downhill clip)

That is, I was wondering if you apply Cineon filters in Adobe Premiere for S8 Vision negative stock? you should only do that if the original footage is saved in logarithmic encoding We've just started using PP's "Cineon Converter" effect on the negs, telecined real-time (20fps) as avi fil...

Re: Super 8 Widescreen?

Hi, Does anyone know a place in Europe (preferably Spain) that does gate widening and subsequent telecine of full frame super 8? Cheers What camera do you have? The only problematic cameras, ones I wouldn't recommend just anyone removing the gate from, are Nizos. I'll bet you have a Nizo....heh. If...

Re: Best density achieved with shooting Vision2 200 negative?

A wedding is a once in a lifetime thing (hopefully). Heh. Arriving too late, not having as much light as I was expecting, shooting with 9 fps (gives very ugly movements, in my opinion), forgetting to change ASA settings... I´d say that would be enough to call it a nightmare if I was the camerama...

Really? Wide open + 9fps in the church, sunny 16 outside - should be fine.

Is the outdoor stuff getting pushed a stop? That might not hurt some of the f22 stuff....

Re: Best density achieved with shooting Vision2 200 negative?

for the best density, overexpose ten stops or so, that will make the entire image reach d-max. isn't it cheaper to buy black leader though? :-) ok sorry, but seriously i'm not sure what you mean. I believe he wants rich blacks - a nice "fat" neg. Since black is white (clear - halide cryst...

Re: What to do with old cameras?

If you're like me you don't have enough storage space. I have a lot of old super8 and reg8 cameras that don't work (either DOA from eBay or KIA) with no hope of repair. I'm inclined to throw them in the trash and let Waste Management haul them away but somehow that seems blasphemous. Do you have an...
