It's a bit misleading: it offers syncronous starting and stopping of tape/film, but it does not offer true sync-sound as the film industry defines it. In other words; it is not frame accurate. You'd probably do just as well starting your tape deck the same time you press the trigger of your camera. It may be worth $15 just for novelty sake. Interestingly; the last line of that manual states that the film and tape must be "editied equally". As it looks like the picture is of a casette tape recorder, I'd bet that would be damn hard to do.

I would make sure to use a clapper, just doesn't the cassette recorder usually take a bit longer to start up or the camera image does? Ya I wouldn't pay more than $30 for this, good luck winning and I would like to be kept up on how this works, it is interesting.

The device is supposed to detect the magnetic field changes of the running motor. A difficult task and it will always be late. Many cameras (but not all) have a connector/terminator built-in which will switch the cassetterecorder on (when properly connected) just before the films starts moving... The Nizos have such a contact in the audio connector. The R10/R8 have a flashcontact like outlet. Others have 3.5 or 2.5 minijacks.
Kind regards,

I MADE a similar device myself a year ago for $10 but it just plugs into the flash port. My version actually gives reference to the exact frame changes so you can track whether the camera's running fast or slow during editing.
