Re: Recommend me a good tape splicer?

The Fujica splicer is for Super-8mm (Fuji Single 8mm) film. If they ever made a splicer capable of splicing R-8mm film I have never seen one. Even if they did, the special tape splices are not available. The Wurker has R-8mm tape splicer and tapes that are as "invisible" as their S-8mm spl...

Re: Recommend me a good tape splicer?

Just like to "amen" on Will's comments about the Maier-Hancock (Bell + Howell) splicers and to add that with cement splices you never have to worry about the splices coming undone using film cleaner. One can use Filmguard or soak films in FilmRenew without issue. To me this is critical to ...

Re: Filing a projector gate

Careful filing with a diamond file is not that big a problem if you make sure to leave no burrs and to do scratch tests with some virgin exposed and developed film. Scratches and abrasions show up easier on clear leader.

Machining the gate is another option and preferred to my way of thinking.

Re: Have you been to the pictures lately?

I have spent a great part of my life going to movies, starting in 1959 before I started kindergarten. I never understood why anyone would prefer watching TV to seeing a good film on the big screen. Now I know why. The experience is just not the same and often no better than what we get in our living...

Re: Punches have arrived!

I can't wait to shoot 200D or any other stock in DS8mm. I wish Wittner would have an English version of their website, not only would it help guys like me, but I would think it should be a mandatory business decision to expand their customer base. I really want them to continue to succeed!

Re: Super eight film making will soon be 50 year's old

I hate to be all doom and gloom but film seems to be like the Titanic going down. It is only a matter of time. And the Super 8 that is available is exorbitantly priced. NO reversal available anymore. I think that the film community is holding onto threads while dangling from a hot air balloon. Even...

Re: Super eight film making will soon be 50 year's old

David, thats exactly what I've been doing with my cameras! They love it when I pull out the projector!
To me the most fun from shooting film is when running the result on a projector in a dark room on a big screen. 8) 8)

Re: Super eight film making will soon be 50 year's old

I can not urge you too strongly to shoot S-8mm or R-8mm or even 16mm of your kids. I can say from experience that you will never regret it later no matter how much it costs.

Re: canon ds 8 camera

I don't mean to slam it, absolutely it has a place; It's just with Super 8 I'm thinking more about portability and ease of use. If I really want good quality in Super 8 I pick up my 4008. I know the DS8 will give a slightly better result than that camera and last longer. I really hope DS8 is around...

Re: canon ds 8 camera

The transfer costs are the same for HD and 2K, so the price jump is in the actual cost of film. I get that, but the jump in quality is night and day. And I've found that I simply shoot less film but more quality shots...I think about it more. I still always have Super 8 cameras available but if I'm...

Re: canon ds 8 camera

It is a great camera. One of my all time favorites to shoot with. So much so that when I got mine, I sold off all my S-8mm cartridge cameras I had amassed over 30 years. Most cameras are still in great shape so you should be able to find an excellent working example. Film is still available and if y...

Re: WITTNER AGFA 200D R8/N8

David, I suspect you missed the Wittner's recent announcement. They released Agfa 200D color reversal in R8 (polyester based). Close to $100 US for a 100ft roll (5 minutes). Development not included. i.e. http://www.wittner-cinetec.com/katalog/ ... _filmm.php Nicholas Kovats I didn't know that. I h...

Re: WITTNER AGFA 200D R8/N8

Maurizio I disagree with your equipment becoming useless. Your fine equipment will bring out the best that any film stock has to offer. I agree this film will have aspects (grain size) that may be a negative in general applications, but I am glad a color reversal film of any caliber is still availab...

Re: WITTNER AGFA 200D R8/N8

I would love to shoot some. I have footage I shot of my kids filmed on 4-X B+W reversal R8. Twice the speed as the Agfa 200D and probably at least twice the grain size. It is beautiful in its own way and distinctive. The image quality is about so much more than just grain size. Not for everyone or e...
