Daan Müller has passed away

Post by Andreas Wideroe »

Daan Muller, the inventor of the Muller HM73 filmscanner died July 22nd. He had been ill for some time.

I didn't know Daan personally, but I've met him once and he was a very kind inventive guy who was eagerly interested in small formats and filmscanning. Being an ex-Philips engineer he had the skills to build his own machine which he did. I remember Daan and his remarks to the Flashscan machines which he didn't like at all. He even made his own website where he compared various systems:

Smalfilmtest (Original in Dutch)
Smallfilm test (Google translated to English)

Daans business:
HomeDVD.nl
HomeDVD.nl (Google translated)

Daan, may you rest in peace. Our thoughts go out to Daan's familiy and friends.

My thoughts go out to his family.

I'd really like to try one of his transfer machines, does anyone know of one in the US?
Cheers,

Thank you, Awand, for bringing Mr. Muller's passing to our attention. May he rest in peace.

His sprocketless laser registration system is very intriguing. Regretfully I did not respond in time to his kind offer to run a test scan of my UltraPan8 footage.

Sorry to hear this.
What does this actually mean as regards the Filmfabriek film scanner business and its perennity?
Was he the main/only technician / RD capable person there or is there a full team taking over without the business being negatively affected
I was looking at the new Muller S HD scanner and it looks like impressive technology, but I would have concerns about making a purchase and having no possibility of support later down the line.
Thanks for you input

Mr Muller sold all to the Filmfabriek. They are on their own now.

There is so much competition they will have a hard time to stay ahead or let alone stay in.

I suppose, my two cents, they focus on transfering as there are millions of kilometers to transfer.
Constructing these machines is really a specialism.

Otherwise enquire... See if you can buy one :)
Kind regards,

André
