Ilford SfX 200 16mm film

Post by Mana »

Wondering if anyone has any experience with this stock. Any special needs for developing, or just treat it like normal black & white negative?

I got a short roll (+200') for practically free!

while i haven't had the chance to use the 16mm version of this film, i've developed heaps of the 35mm still stock and there is no major difference on the process. i used the same times as the kodak t-max and they turn out beautiful. one thing though, you need to use a red filter and shoot outdoors with plenty of light to bring out the beauty of this film.

Yes, I guess I should try a roll of 35mm to get a feel of it. Was hoping to see some clips online , but couldn't find any.

SFX200 is Ilford's infrared film stock. Use deep red filter to get "special effects", ie. blue sky completely black, and green foliage almost white.

Use normal B&W processing to achieve best results. It can be reversal-processed as well.

Interesting - is this new or old stock? I'd love to try some Ilford motion picture film if it can still be obtained.

this must be custom-perforated from 135 film stock ... to my best knowledge, Ilford never offered SFX film in 8mm film stock.

It was only available in 16mm single perf, along with HP5 & FP4 I think. Don't have the can in front of me ,but I seem to recall the exp. date to be around '04 or '05.

When I bought my processing tank circa 1975! I also bought a 200' can of FP4 double 8, and Ferrania Colour as well. So at one time Ilford did sell their black and white range in double 8.

They also did a double 8 colour film, Ilfochrome. Best deal was a pack of four which then came back on one 200' reel. Was not as good a Kodachrome, but cheaper and perfectly adequate for home movies.
