Ektachrome 100D Sample

Post by lealar »

Here's a link to a roll I shot last week of Kodak's Ektachrome 100D. The Beaulieu I used gave me jitter, focusing was off with it as well, and it's no the greatest telecine. I had better results using the Canon 310XL indoors with it and at full auto exposure. Still I thought it might be worth a look.

Thanks

You d'man Art!

Hope the jitter isn't here to stay!

You gonna make some more tests?

That Beaulieu lens sure seems to impart some cold color cast to your film. While I have not yet tried 100D in super 8, I can tell you that in regular 8 it is much more vivid and "ultra color" like Kodak's UC160 stock...

Best of luck with your next roll...

You allready had films delivered. And shot, processed with telecine in this short time? That is fast as some are thinking Kodak still needs to start manufacturing?

Looks nice in sharpness and spring colours. Despite the jitter and tripod-less shots. It is the Hell's gate bridge in NY isn't it? Isn't the end bookshelf scene to be the start of the sequence?

Possibly you can save a bit from the material using Videofred Virtualdub scripts?
Kind regards,

André

Thanks Art,

I'm certain you will be conducting all sorts of additional tests on 100D. Where did you obtain it? Does the Manhattan Kodak office stock 100D yet?

Hi Wooda!

Yes they have it. See the below for a bit more detail.

Hi AJ:

I stopped by Kodak' s offices on 31st Street in Manhattan on Friday the 24th. My intent was to pick up some Ektachrome 64T, but when I asked about 100D, the gentleman told me he would check. He then returned to tell me they had it, but needed to make sure the batch he saw wasn't a pre-order for shipping. He then asked me "how many". I shot in an Saturday the 25th, mailed it to Pac Lab on Monday (were both in NYC), and received it this Friday the 30th, which I then telecined at home.

Yes this was Hellgate! Nice catch! The bookshelf opening would have defintiely made more sense.

I can run a Deshaker and such but I'd just as well shoot another roll. Was not very happy with the clarity, which was due to my probable incorrect use of the ground glass to focus with.

Hi Jamie!!

Yes this weekend I will shoot some more, probably with the Nizo S560. Would have loved to use the Canon 814 AZE, but it's in the shop with Bigworm...having the clutch adjusted in the hopes that it will help with Fuji Velvia's monster jitter issues I always seem have.

Would love to see some shots from your side. Always love seeing your footage and the transfers you get are superb!

Here is a film shot with 100D, http://www.vimeo.com/5400948

It was transferred to "fullframe 4:3", and later cropped in post to 16:9.

That looks a lot like the E100D I am used to shooting with and transferring (above Vimeo link)...notice the super saturated reds and greens...lots of contrast too. Nice mountain bike action...too bad it was not BMX...

Cheers,
Mike

Man, that is wild stuff. Almost Kodachromey.

Now I've got to figure out something to do with it.

Hi Tim:
I was surprised as well. I'm used to Spectra's 100D having a much warmer appearance as these:

http://vimeo.com/1244645

It was processed at PAC Lab, but I don't imagine that having anything to do with it, but in all honesty I don't know. Just shot another roll this afternoon and dropped it off to them, this time using a Nizo S560 in full auto. I'll post it as soon as I can. Looking forward to seeing other folks' samples as well.

That looks very much like the Wittner 100D which I have shot in the past.

A little too saturated for my tastes but it just requires that I change how and perhaps what I shoot. I tend to like a cool picture anyway.

Its good stuff, I more or less experimented with the Wittnerchrome 100D rather than shooting anything planned. You have chosen a subject which suits the stock, and it looks great.

It is Wittnerchrtome 100D (re-packed Kodak 100D, I believe). If you think it is too saturated all you need to do is lower the saturation in your NLE.
