Super 8 Camera Repairs - UK

Hi. I'm new here and to the world of Super 8, so buying a camera for my first venture is proving a little tricky. Yes there are plenty of cameras out there but I'm more concerned about being able to repair them if a fault occurs, especially as I have quite a big project coming up in Sept.

So I've been searching for anyone who does repairs in the UK but haven't found anyone, does one exist? If not, what do you guys do if something goes wrong, is there somewhere in Europe perhaps?

Oh, and I'm planning on buying a Nizo 801 macro if that makes any difference.

Hi

I had a problem with my Nizo 561, I sent it to the camera centre hailsham, they were pretty good, they're weren't expensive and sorted the problem out quickly. I found their details on www.onsuper8.org .

Thanks PJ. I've had a quick look on that website but can't find anything on repairs, can you remember whereabouts it was? Perhaps I just need to do a bit more digging...

Hi there - I had my Nizo 801 Macro serviced at GK Film in Germany via Frank Bruinsma at the Super 8 Reversal Lab in Holland. -GK film have years of experience of servicing top Super 8 cameras and have all the proper equipment to do so - they are nothing but professional. Should you need to why not get your camera serviced in the country of origin by a Geman with all the knowledge and spare parts of your camera?

They fixed the camera - made all the re-callibrations necessary, lubed it up and converted the light meter to run from the main batteries - no more messing with the light meter cell batts!

The camera runs like new!

If you need it on time: mind the holidays and the GK reputation for loooong repairs. The package will be at least be travelling two weeks in and two weeks out.
Also, that going through NL you have to pay for shipping four times and a service fee for the privilege and convenience. And then still the repair and work.

Fair point, Andre, but I had my camera back within 3 weeks. The project is in September so I think that is plenty of time including the summer holidays!

The camera is shipped back direct from GK film and so is only doing 3 trips - not 4 - UK-Holland, Holland-Gemany and then Germany-UK. I think a small fee for having an intermediary who speaks English/German is fine. The total cost wasn't that expensive and the camera was like new afterwards.

It's a fair point to raise - I had seen that too hopefully it should not be a problem.

I wonder if Frank gets as far away from Super 8 as possible when he's on holiday?
