Previously unreleased 8mm JFK footage
I saw a cool clip at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17229693?GT1=9033
of some 8mm footage of JFK.
Please do not start with the conspiracy theories.
Amazing how good the "video" (in the words of the CNN correspondent) has held up.
Peace,
Brian

very nice colors...nice to see the view from the other side of the car...first time ever for that. They seem much more real don't they...being so close to the camera and the fixed telephoto lens (or normal 12.5mm lens) bring the action nice and tight.
There'll be more film one day...if we live long enough.

Interesting. This is an amazing example of the specific emulsion Kodachrome II has true archival qualities. It would appear that this film didn't run through a projector very often; there aren't any gate scratch marks or stripes that normally appear on 40+ year old film.
Remarkable how clear Jackie O appears and others appear. This is the beauty of Kodachrome.
I digress... I suspect that the footage of the depository may have been shot after the assasination. Why? Well, the way the footage 'jumps' and was edited by the news media, it would seem that the shot of the depository appears at the end of the strip. Perhaps (theory) the cameraman put the film away knowing what he had shot and didn't feel that he caught enough of the event to warrant showing it to authorities. He or she just put it away.
I would like to know where it was found. I assume Texas.

I'm back, I'm back- thebrowniecameraguy is back! I still have my Brownie 8mm Turret f/1.9! Time to play!
In the video the SAID the depository footage was shot later. George Jeffreys (SP?) shot it and kept it in a drawer at his house in east Texas till he decided to donate it to a museum.
I may sound stupid, but I hide it well.

That can be misleading since one of the strong points of R-8mm (especially the tough Kodachrome emulsion) is the gentleness in handling film by many of the projectors made during the heyday of R-8mm. I have 30 year old R-8mm film that has been run through a projector at least 50 times without any visual wear. It is all in both the design of the projector film transport and how well the user keeps it clean. It would appear that this film didn't run through a projector very often; there aren't any gate scratch marks or stripes that normally appear on 40+ year old film.

Yeah, super-8 and dual mode projectors tend to be pretty crappy in general. When 8mm first became a public option for shooting, the projectors were generally made to be top quality while the super-8 notion is more of a low-grade consumer market.

processing mystery
conspiracy fans...
who processed this how and when.
strange if it was done recently.
strange that something so massive from a american cultural perspective was just dumped in a drawer.if the guy was that disinterested, why did he bother to film the book depository....weird.
also check out frame 108, 6 secs in dodgy looking fbi guy with a
6.5 mm Mannlicher-Carcano bolt-action rifle, setting up classic triangle formation killing zone.

Good grief, how many people are going to post about this footage without having watched it? THE DEPOSITORY WAS SHOT LATER!!!!!!!!!! They said so IN THE MOVIE! They shot it because the KNEW that's the supposed point of origin for the gun shots. It WAS developed shortly after being shot, not just recently.
