Ektachrome 64T - My results

Post by Astro »

Hi
I've shot & had processed 2x Ektachrome 64T Super-8
Will transfer to tape next week.

But under an 8x Lupe on a lightbox the image looks gorgeous. Brilliant reds, Fine grain,
Good exposure overall.

I filmed timelapse on the evening sky, London Buses, The Isle of Wight music festival, views through a car mirror, Timelapse of clouds.

The image is consistently well exposed, however the truth will be in the transfer off an Ursa Diamond.

I used a Canon 1014XLS with Filter in (obviousley) and shot the film on Single frame, 24fps, and 54fps with no signs of problem.

By eye if these were results for a commercial job, I would be extremly happy.

Good news to hear! By the way, whereabouts did you obtain this film stock from? I didn't think that T64 had been released in super 8 yet.

Film should be released in August / September I think.
I was given two rolls to test for Kodak.

I also tested the rolls in a Canon 310XL

Can you post the results here or are the rolls Kodaks property?

It would be great to see the difference, the same scene with both filters.

Were those samples received directly from Kodak at Hemel Hempstead, or from the Widescreen Centre? Those early test cartridges may have been notched for 40T. What EI did your camera use? Where were they processed?

54fps on a Canon 1014XLS? Do you mean 36fps.

Looking forward to seeing the results.

John - "Astro" is actually Jake from The Widescreen Centre, I believe. Juergen at Schmalfilm mentioned to me yesterday that the first 64T test carts he shot were notched as 40T.

Will Kodak be notching the new carts so they can be read correctly by cameras that can properly handle 64T? Any idea if the notch will be read as 40T by 40/160 cameras?

Thanks

The notching of the production cartridges will most likely be for 64T, unless our testing shows another EI to be more appropriate for the film in the Super-8 format. I believe the test cartridges just used the same carts as K-40 which were "on the shelf" in our finishing plant, which of course were notched for 40T.

Again, "official" release of the E64T is scheduled for August.

I'd be very interested to hear how the film behaves exposed at 40T/25D.

probably exactly what kodak did...looked at the 64t film under a lupe, said wow that looks good...that will do nicely for those, home movie bozos..

clear methodical back to back k40 - 64t comparison tests are needed..
why has kodak not even done these tests,if they have and the 64t is so revolutionary, where are they..
just look how they are treating us...users customers..
i look forward to the day epson, sandisk or canon ...buy this company, chop out the dead wood...and get in some people that have heard of the phrase marketing strategy..
i shoot and sometimes i score
