Software for the flicker problem

Post by Raimo »

I would like to hear from forum users what software they are using to correct flicker in telecine transfers in post production. I would prefer to hear from folks who actually use something and their review of the software as opposed to "hearsay reports". Thanks.

If you run windows there are some great filters for Virtual Dub. Best of all it is all open source and free. I played with some Avid filters but I found one for Virtual Dub that was much more effective. It has been a while since I used it so I don't remember the name. Do some searching on google and you should find what you need.

I used this software after doing a really crappy flickery transfer. Now I use video cameras with variable shutters that allow me to not need to do this (atleast at 24fps).

Raimo,

I admit that I have never used the Virtualdub "Antiflicker" filter, but I am using Virtualdub with other filters from time to time. Anyway, here are 2 links to this filter plus to Virtualdub itself.

1. Original filter by Donald Graft:

Click on "Mine" in the table of links on the LH side. Then scroll down to "Virtualdub Filters". "Antiflicker" is the first one.

2. Updated version by Alessandro Malanca:

Virtualdub:

Good luck!
