Sync Sound

Post by RichardB »

Does anyone still have a copy of the sync sound scripts developed by either Mattius or Cranium on this forum?

Quite a few people were sent it, but it was well over 15 years ago. Sadly Mattius doesn't have his script to hand any more,

I'm looking to do sync sound filming with pilotone, but capture the sound on either my MiniDisc recorder or a Zoom H4N.

I've also just reposted a schematic for developing a simple 1khz pulse generator from the PC flash contact, on another thread. Surprised I found it after I thought it had been lost for years...

Hi!

Are you talking about the windows program that took a „stereo wav“-file with the sync peeps on one channel and adjusted the sound on the other channel to the correct speed?

Take care

syncsound v1.0 beta

copyright mattias sandström/too much too soon 2002

runs on any pc with windows 95 or higher.

usage: syncsound hz threshold keep flip tight in.wav out.wav

hz: the frequency you want to resolve the sync pulse to. i.e. 23.976,
24, 25 and so on.

threshold: the signal threshold in -db for what should be considered a
pulse. start with 0 and increase until you get a clean resolve.

keep: set to 1 to keep the sync pulse in the result. good for testing.

flip: the sync pulse should normally be on the right channel. if it's on
the left, set this option to 1.

tight: The program normally adjusts the speed in half second intervals,
which evens out small variations in camera speed and increases sound
quality. If you do want to track every pulse individually, if you have
speed ramps and such for example, just set this option to 1.

in.wav: a 16 bit stereo file. Any sample rate will work, but 44.1 or 48
khz is recommended.

out wav: a 16 bit mono file (or stereo if the keep option was set) at
the same sample rate as the input.

example: syncsound 23.976 18 1 0 0 present.wav pr23976.wav

when the program runs, it outputs a dot for each pulse (or group of
pulses) found, and an x for each not found. this is useful for setting
the threshold level. if you see an x where there shouldn't be one, you
should increase the sensibility by increasing the threshold value.

feedback and questions to <removed for privacy> please.

good luck and have fun.

/matt
