RetroScan Universal 16mm Optical Trck Tests

Post by pberk »

I used my RetroScan Universal plus the AEO-Light software recommended by Roger to transfer a 45 year old 16mm release print.

I downloaded the AEO-Light software from Roger's website and then followed Roger's well written instructions and those of the AEO-Light people.

Here are some test results along with my original 16mm projector sound-dub, which at the time, seemed pretty good to me. Now you can compare.

It took a bit of fiddling to get things right -- but this type of RetroScan transfer, seems to me, is ready for prime time.

Yes I love it, opens up a whole new realm of scanning. Here's a film I scanned for my local water dept from 1959, with a Variable Density Track. Also did two more for them, one from 74 and 84. The 84 reel has a nice stereo track. Here's a link to their youtube

Nice work Tscan. Sounds very good. The narration and music surely date the piece to a "kinder, gentler" time.

I didn't do the "critical" focus maneuver that Roger recommended, nor did I play too much with the exposure.
The tricky thing is the "pitch" adjustment. The AEO-Light manual was not veru clear (at least to me) on the "overlap" ..
I found putting the pitch boundary lines right on the frame line worked best.
