Kodak stops production of Ektachrome 100D
No more Super 8 color reversal film made by Kodak. Vision3 50D color negative film will come in Super 8. More info on http://www.schmalfilm.de- in German language...
Ektachrome 100D will be canceled in any format: S8, 16 mm, 35 mm.

That is... depressing. Reversal stock is so much cheaper to transfer, with so many options availabe.
Re: Kodak stops production of Ektachrome 100D
I am sure that most people knew that it was just a matter of time. It would be great if J.S. could have the V3 50D perfed for regular 8mm.

How much time do we have left before stock dries up and processing ceases?

I guess it depends oh how fast people purchase the remaining stock. There might be a mad rush to stock up by some users.

I'll hit B&H in Manhattan tomorrow to pick up a few, but I can't do a bull run. Christmas has me tapped out, unfortunately. 8O

With Fuji pulling out of the film market all together, I guess that means no slide film at all for anybody. I'm glad I just bought a bunch of Provia.
I may sound stupid, but I hide it well.

Can negative stocks be processed as reversal, and if so, what are the results like? I imagine you would still get the orange cast.

I'm thinking of a JK Printer! Shoot in negative, print on release stock... That way the camera negative remains in top condition.

Terrible news. The 50d is a nice stock, but no colour neg stock will replace colour reversal for price. This is going to hit super 8 very hard. Lets hope ORWO do indeed consider making one of their old colour emulsions again.
As for processing colour neg in reversal chemistry, yes, it is possible. But you need to under rate the film by about two stops (ie if it is 200 asa, shoot it as 50 asa) and then also push process it by about two stops. This gives a rather lovely golden coloured low contrast positive.

I believe the fuji reversal still film stocks are still available and in production. Fuji ceased motion picture stock, not still film.wado1942 wrote:With Fuji pulling out of the film market all together, I guess that means no slide film at all for anybody. I'm glad I just bought a bunch of Provia.

Most/many people only shoot to have it trasnfered to digital.richard p. t. wrote:Terrible news. The 50d is a nice stock, but no colour neg stock will replace colour reversal for price. I notice several EU sellers offer Kodak Vision S8 at the same price or even lower than E100. So when processing is not too much off then the costs are about the same.
The only thing is that you cannot the film on a viewer or projected.
Of course there are fewer transfer houses who do proper color negative transfer.
Kind regards,
André

Wittner has the news http://www.wittner-kinotechnik.de/neu/news2012.php

because of low stocks and is working on getting things clear on future delivery.
Wittner has a request for new ideas invitation now they have 7 types of BW in Winter Konfekt.
Maybe we ought to advise them to find an affordable Color Reversal

Re: Kodak stops production of Ektachrome 100D
It is very sad news, but I guess many were expecting this after Kodak stoped making slide films. Fuji are still making slide films, they also make Agfa's slide films too, so it's not the end of slide film. It looks like Kodak willl only make motion picture negative films and Fuji will only make still/ print films both reversal and slide films.
