My old film web sites are on Archive dot org??!!

Post by studiocarter »

I can't hardly believe it; all my old webs have been saved. No cost to me at all. Look at this; it is super>

Their 'wayback' machine has them. It you go to arcive dot org and do a search on 8mmfilmmakingdotcom (use a real period) it'll appear.

PS, I'll soon have a real darkroom and will be able to resume developing movies

better copy these files to your own computer while you can...

It is all a demonstration of what service you can expect for free. Also these new free services have the same expectations. They will not last forever!

And even with paid services you have to take care that you keep multiple private copies on durable media. Which are thus not CD or DVD writables.
Kind regards,

I love the Internet Archive. Check out their millions of feet of amateur movies from the past. Also see their Prelinger Archive mirror.

Don't worry-- the I.A. will be free forever. They are set up so that it is a legal impossibility for them not to be. They are also heavily funded and have a billionaire high-tech guy as their guiding angel. The Archive has a permanent bank of servers set up at the old Presidio in San Francisco, and a mirror site in Europe.

They are all on DVDs and CDs and they work as they should there.
What are more durable than those?

I also have hundreds of movies downloaded and burnt to disks from them. Come to think of it, I do not have "The Creature From The Black Lagoon" or "The Blob".

Thanks,

Michael
