I loved reading the "how to" thread on the other site.

Thanks. It's kind of distracting to stop and take pictures but some people find it informative.

And, unlike Polar Express, there are no reanimated zombies in your work.

Yeah, I found the whole movie really, really creepy. There's a thing called "The Uncanny Valley" that deals with humanism and robotics.

Basically, it says that as robots become more human looking, they are better accepted but then there is a point where they are just short of human looking and they suddenly look repulsive and creepy and acceptance plunges. Then as they get past that point, they become accepted again. That gap between acceptance points is called the uncanny valley and I think the characters in Polar Express fall into that category.

Please let us know when you do more. Bonus marks if you pop apart a bolex and paint a photo realistic canvas of its innards.

I'm seriously considering it. It would be fun.

Unless you've been on another planet for the last 60 years, then you know there hasn't been an election in memory that wasn't bought and paid for. Don't kid yourself that McCain is any different. Both he and Obama and the rest are owned in one way or the other. It's really getting pretty disgusting.

I don't consider my customers to be schleps. I afford them a bit more dignity than that and try to treat them with respect.

Businesses have always been my bread and butter. The number of units I sell to individuals like forum members has always been few and far between, despite what some people think. But regardless of which president screws up the economy, the average person can still afford a WorkPrinter or a CineMate.

Well, at least you still have your Chu Chu paintings to fall back on!

It would be nice to support myself with painting but that is unrealistic.

My goal is to sell this as prints to train enthusiasts and what they like is mucho detail, which would leave Mr. Monet's painting out of the running, though I prefer it to my own train painting!

You should have no trouble at all; it's exceedingly well executed. As for the Monet, I prefer that style too, in general. I don't think you'd have any problem painting in that style if you wished...(c'mon, do it!) ~:?)

Meanwhile myself I've been working on the same 40" X 60" canvas since last Christmas! Though I do have the excuse that I've been devoting much time to a renewed interest in rock 'n roll -

Hi Roger,

I get the pristine snow vs hulking grubby loco thing - that works well.

I find it interesting in the monet that the organic material (fence trees) - seems to have more texture than the inorganic/man made stuff.

Sorry about the Polar Express reference - it was just a clearly defined train in the snow - as Mitch described really. For what it's worth that film kind of sucked - I liked the art work but the story was overly long - and it was populated by zombies (very weird).

I have a challenge for you - re trains in the desert - can you paint that scene in Lawrence of Arabia where they blow up the train



Then again in this age of terror maybe that's not a good idea - just paint Sarah Palin instead - come on everyone admit it - she's a spunk
