100% OT: I got an I-Phone for Christmas!!!!
This is the absolute, better than my 10th-Christmas-Major-Matt-Mason-Space-Crawler, coolest, best ever Christmas present.
I have to admit that when I opened the box, my first reaction was that my wife had spent a lot of money on a frivolous amenity for me. I hate for people to spend money on gifts for me. Anyway, after getting it all set up and using it for only half a day, I simply can not live without this damned thing. It is... to put it colloquially ....totally fucking cool. Really, really well thought out and soooooo easy to use. Having an internet business, going out even for a daylong excursion has always been somewhat stressful for me. The longer we're out, the more emails and phone calls that I know are piling up while I'm gone. But with this little devil, I can keep up with my emails and phone calls as the day goes on. As a result, I can totally relax and enjoy myself! Hell, we might actually take a vacation! Who-hoo!!!!
Anyway, I know they're pricey but, man, what a totally bitchin' Chistmas gift. If you don't got one, git one if you can. They are sweeeeeet......
I haven't had anything Mac since my old Performa 450! ;)

I've played around with an iPod touch, which basically is an iPhone but you cannot make phonecalls with it, and I must say that I was blown away.
I'm just gonna wait until Apple finds a suitable network operator here in Holland and then get the iPhone. I hope it won't take much longer, as I know it's gonna be a nice little thing.
Sync all the appointments in iCal, sync all the contacts with Address book, full email capabilities, nice screen to show vids to friends..
I must stop dreaming about it now..

Cool, Roger. The iPhone is brilliant technology.
I'm planning to replace my old 3rd Gen iPod soon, once Apple has unleashed the SDK for the iPhone/iPod Touch (and after the Macworld expo in San Francisco in a couple of weeks... you never know what Steve has up his sleeves). These things are very capable little touchscreen computers, but it'll take the efforts of 3rd party programmers to really make them shine.
That said, I'm going to choose the iPod Touch, because I despise rip-off multi-year phone contracts (I'm in Canada, and contracts with data have a nasty way of creaping toward the $100/mo mark).

That is so old school dude..I have to say I do not give a flip about an iphone or cellies in genreal, but Major Matt reallly takes me back. Not many cats even know who he was. Thanks for the memories my fellow Texan.

Brian

No shit! I already had a close one yesterday. I was reading my email while driving (not smart) and almost hit someone. Don't do that any more but it scared the piss out of me, that's for sure. I mean, hey, I might have seriously damaged my I-Phone!T-Scan wrote:Just be careful driving. Don't go crashing the car for a WP question!

Congrats on the new iphone. Very cool...though, I prefer the old days where vacation meant vacation, not on the phone at all hours...though, when you work for yourself, vacation is really unpaid leave.
Have you seen the Sony PSP? Does basically everything that the iphone does except the telephone without userfees. And it is hackable for those that like such things...and the screen is huge and a joy to watch...plus I can watch TV on it via the net with my location-free upload box...
Enjoy your iphone and let us know how the super 8 and regular 8 movies look on it and what settings/media you use to view them. On my PSP, I use PSP Video 9 to transcode MPG movies to psp format...very simple. Really cuts down on the file size too with incredible clarity. A 3 minute movie is about 22KB.
Cheers,
Mike

dat ding is simply amazing. i bought 2 US models a couple of months away and allthough ive always been a McMAC this ding is another quantum leap device.
my 2 phones are hacked - because the iphones are only released in UK and germany in Europe as of yet - france next soon - and you should hack yours 2.
the hack opens another world to the phone which is also beyond your imagination - i promise.
the hack - which includes an installer you will be able to run a wild amount softwares available from "4th party hackers ;) " and you wont believe whats avail for dat ding.
my jr has the other one and he downloads an incredible amount of software and addons not yet avail to the locked ones.
simply amazing.
Apple is suposed to open the iPhone for other software developers in Ferbuary 2008 if i ´call correctly.
the firmware 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 are fairly easy to hack and will enable to install SIM fre which allows you to use any operator you like.
i think 1.1.4 will be out soon and hackers will instantly work flat out to break in.
since you are in the US is ia always possible to reset the phone to the original settings to via iTunes upgrade.
the standard Google Earth map/satellite/route planner is way beyond my Garmin M5 ever got (PDA/GPS) and Tomtom - the GPS maker is rumoured to supply GPS soft- and hardware (plugin module) fo the iP next year.
http://gpsdock.com/blogs/2007/12/12/tom ... ps-module/
what is funny is that even though the iP hasnt been avail outside US until recently it has sparked the software developers all over the world at an amazing rate.
i wonder if Apple made the iP fairly easy to hacke to benefit to get free development ideas & feedback because it is now well known that Apple left out quite some bits on the software side when it was released in the US - they simply could not get it all ready.
another fun thing is that if you hack it it will be possible to run Skype on it - and iPod Touch as well.

mix on software avail and hacks - few hints.

well, anyway - this is just the beginning.....
shoot.
btw.... iPod touch gets a awesome functionality boost when hacked too...;)
