I know this is hopeless, but I thought I'd ask. The lightmeter on my P1 crapped out. It used to work fine, now nothing.
I am using a 1.4volt battery. I tested the battery in my k3, no problem. Fires it right up.
When I push the little lever on top to engage the meter, the tap will not stay depressed, it pops right up. So I guess that's the problem.
No biggie, I have a light meter, I was just wondering if anyone had any thiughts.

P1 light meter issue
Zevon forever!
Hi,
according to the Super8wiki the P1 requires a H-2D mercury cell, which is a 2,7V battery. Hence your 1,4V-battery most likely is too week. You might want to try if it works with one of those "3.0V-replacement batteries" (some cameras work fine, other will over-/under-expose due to the difference between 3.0 and 2.7V):

Some replacement batteries for the original mercury cell are discussed here:

Since you seem to be located in the USA, you might want to take a look at this super8wiki-section since it contain some mail-order shops with a "batteries"-remark:
