K40 stills / captures. for fun

Post by mojohey »

My rough attempt at capturing K40.... used an Agfa family viewer and my Sony Digital camera...

Not too bad... prob should have used sharper footage though!

Just posted for fun... but they came out well considering it only took a few minutes to set up.

For me, the POINT is the subject (not the format/resolution/camera)...and you have a great subject for pictures. Thanks for sharing...I posted one I just transferred in a new thread thanks to your inspiration!

Not bad at all...

Very good idea to use a viewer for fast capturing stills.
I'm amazed how good the picture is.
I did not expect this quality was possible with a viewer.
You could capture a short clip, too, this way.

I've done the same thing, using an Agfa Family viewer and a digicam I borrowed from work (propably the best use for a bloody digicam so far for me,I prefer 35mm). I was surprised how good the results were!!

Tried to capture a movie (on the digital camera movie mode) but its the same strobing / flicker effect you get from off the wall projector stuff. The stills are easier because you can advance 1 frame at a time set your Digital cam up and take several pics at different settings... i thought they were pretty good for a first attempt.

Maybe later today i'll try with my Mini DV and adjust the shutter to reduce the flicker... worth a try i suppose

Any chance to use the viewers "polaroid-hole" for capturing? I'm not home right now so can't check the flickering..

Of cource, but I mean: a serie of stills, say 50 frames, then make a movie of them.

Looking at the quality of your stills, this movie would be very good.

What was the resolution of the original stills?
You could make a very high resolution movie, with this system.

What kind of Sony DSC do you use? 2048x1536 or even more must be possible, right?

Camera was on macro mode and at 3.2 million pixels... can go to 5million.

I see what your thinking now.

Hi there,

looks very good. The funny thing is I also did some experiments with a digital camera (a sony cybershot DSC-P9, an older model) some weeks ago.

Here are some stills (half resolution of original pic):

S8 Stills

all pictures are taken during projection on a white door with 18pic/sec!

I also did some motion picture with the capture a movie mode (320x240 pix), and the astounding thing is: theres NO flicker! I tried it some times and there were never any flicker!

Look here:

Movie

I was really impressed with that! Of course it is a bad resolution, but I never thought it would look so good and without flicker!

You can remove the thing on the left side of the viewer, you know, where you can keep your film rolls..? In the 80's there was an accessory available for taking polaroid stills of your film. So there's a hole where the picture come out on the polaroid.... Sorry my bad english, don't know how to explain...

It looks like you have no flicker because your digicam's framerate is so low, below 18fps.

Well, the pictures look very good. Some darkening to the corners but no hotspot. I tried the same from several viewer screens but all gave a considerable hot spot. I didn't test the Agfa then. I'll give a try soon. Did you use the standard screen or the extra add-on large screen.

Anybody tried to use the print function of the Agfa? There is no Kodak instant film anymore but I thought maybe to expose to reversal paper directly but doubt if it is fast enough. Possibly double expose while the frame is at standstill. Might just as well print on paper using my MINOX enlarger, dedicated 15mm lens for a 8x11mm frame
Kind regards,

André

But when I look in the info-window in the quicktime player it shows FPS: 25

Also "Wiedergabe (fps)" shows 25 fps.

So is this a fake? When I use the arrow-keys to move a single frame, it shows ca. 3 same pictures. So the camera is making one pic into ca. 3 to get 25 frames per second?

Klaus.
