No E64T in Canada until Q1 2006

Post by filmamigo »

I just got off the phone with the Kodak order line in Canada, where I was asking for price and availability of the E64T.

I thought I might as well be proactive and get it from the horse's mouth instead of waiting for an announcement here...

The answer was not what I wanted to hear. The representative told me that it now looks like the Super 8 Ektachrome 64T "will not be available until the end of the first quarter of 2006."

8O :( :( :(

This makes no sense, since it's already available in Europe. I notice there's been complete silence about its availability in the USA, though.

This makes complete sense. It is not for any foolish reason that the only official K40 laboratory from Kodak only exists in Europe. It is where the home movie maker projectionists reside who will buy the 64.

I don't think so...many projectionists live in the usa...the usa is a bigger market for S8 than europe

That is not true. The Kodak selling figures clearly say: more than 70% of the Super 8 market is in Europe. 30% is the rest of the world. USA is 10-15%.

Right, then. I'll be ordering a 10-pack of E64T from Wittner Kinotechnik to tide me over. About 12 euros/cart plus shipping.

I'll just have to make sure it's shipped air mail or it won't arrive til 2007. ;)

Hi filmamigo

Two weeks ago I received 5 rolls of Ektachrome 64T Super 8 from Kodak Canada. Maybe an employee told you the wrong info by mistake.

I'd be surprised if 64T takes so long to reach Canada.

But it was always likely to be launched in Europe first (not that I see any fanfare launch from Big K) because I expect the film is perfed and packaged in France.

Well, berk, that's good news. I called 1-800-621-FILM. How do you order?

I call 800-621-3456 ... I called today actually and they told me 64T was available starting at the end of next week. When I explained that I had already received 64T , the lady didn't understand how I could have gotten it. I think there are just a few signals crossed, that's all.

( I have always gotten FANTASTIC customer service from Kodak Canada .)
