Re: Regular 8mm Black & White Print

Concerning image steadiness: A reference edge is defined by the standard, ISO 74, it’s the right-hand film edge seen from behind the camera towards the lens. Not all cameras have the same positioning distance, i. e. the distance between the optical axis and the point where the transport claw leaves ...

Re: Regular 8mm Black & White Print

You have very good cameras for Regular Eight film. The Bell & Howell Straight Eight is rare. Bell & Howell double-run Filmo 8s are not. Truly well-made instruments. There were nine Single-Eight cameras on the market*. Then you have an armada of Double-8 cameras with the Paillard-Bolex H-8 as...

Re: Regular 8mm Black & White Print

Alfred Kahl is an individual. He has a perforator from Wolfen. I used to have a business relation with him 19 years ago and some time on. Bought stuff from him, projectors, cameras, raw stock for printing. Perforation has been off standard now and then. He doesn’t care and obviously does not depend ...

Re: Regular 8mm Black & White Print

Michael, you’re so right about the educational aspect. I think Double Eight is a self-educating affair, one actually teaches oneself, just as you say, lacing up camera and projector, and the rest. I am a person who needs resistance, the easy going way bores me and has always been even suspect to me....

Re: Regular 8mm Black & White Print

Funny how we’ve gone off-topic once again. On the other hand it’s an opportunity to reflect a little on 8mm filmmmaking. In the perspective of the film manufacturers the amateur market, the amateur movement also, has only one purpose. They shall buy film. And the masses did consume, 9½ and 16mm and ...

Re: Regular 8mm Black & White Print

That bracket was sold by the Stevens Engineering Company of Los Angeles CA.
They also made dovetail slot filter slides and the machining of the turret plate.

Re: Regular 8mm Black & White Print

Impressive Brings back memories of a holding bracket I once devised for the Beaulieu R 16/9,5. Contrary to Paillard, Beaulieu never increased the housing bottom. I deem it the best move Paillard ever made with the H cameras. They were actually forced to it with the heavy zoom lenses, magazine and mo...

Re: Fomapan DS8mm 100ft rolls USA

Great to read this. I was the first importer of Fomapan R to my country in 1999 after long years. It’s an old-time stock with a lot of silver in it, an anti-halo undercoat, a thick photographic layer, and a colourless triacetate base, the right stuff for home movie makers. It connects directly with ...

Re: Regular 8mm Black & White Print

Condolation for your father Try to understand the concept of the turret camera. You have two to six* fixed focal length lenses on the camera, compact and lightweight. The usual set is a normal length, a wide-angle, and a telephoto lens instantly interchangeable. Concurrently a few manufacturers had ...

Re: Regular 8mm Black & White Print

Had a Universal wooden legs tripod with fluid head. The two Miller brothers from Australia, one had departed for the USA, the other stayed in Sydney. It was on the upper limit, weight-wise, but gave me rigid and butter-soft movement shots. I feel like only half myself without it.

Re: Bolex H16 problem

As Michael sais, the spool might have turned but not taken the film. When you run the empty camera and finger brake the take-up spool, does it pull? If not, your camera needs a service. Fold the film three quarter of an inch from the cut end, hook the fold in the spool’s core slot, and roll two or t...

Re: Regular 8mm Black & White Print

Doug, I’m glad you’re saying that. If somebody looks at a Bell & Howell Filmo Double-Run 8 from the thirties, he has one of the technically best cameras. When it was first introduced, the announced price was $75, that would be $1,327.40 today. The Filmo 8 projector cost $125 in the beginning, $2...
