Re: Kodak awakens, new S8 camera announced at CES '16

I've been following this thread (and the other ones about this new camera) with a lot of interest, and there's one thing I just don't get. Why keep folks banging on about this camera being likely to produce blurry / out-of-focus pictures? Looking at the specs, it comes with a fixed focus 6mm prime ...

I have nothing that will work with it then, bummer. So the Beaulieu C-mount has the same focal distance as 16mm?
they sure do... if you put them on a 16mm camera they work totally fine, but have a nearly complete image circle in the middle. I've often thought about using them for special effects.

Re: Kodak awakens, new S8 camera announced at CES '16

Upon reflection I'm wondering if most D-mount lenses would even cover a Max-8 frame. Being as D-mount was designed for regular 8mm, and Super8 has some 35% increase in surface area over 8mm, and Max8 some 20% increase over Super8, I bet we'd see a lot of vignetting were an adapter possible. much in ...

Re: Kodak awakens, new S8 camera announced at CES '16

Looking around online, the Chinon camera appears to have replaceable adapters. It comes with a D-mount lens coupled with an adapter, but a separate C-mount adapter is available. At least that's what I could find (here http://www.wired.com/2014/04/chinon-bellami-hd-1/ ). I would be really surprised i...

Re: Kodak awakens, new S8 camera announced at CES '16

If it is a standard C-mount (which I see no reason for why it shouldn't be), a D-mount (or H8RX c-mount lenses) will not work. I once tried to adapt a Kern-Paillard 13mm f0.9 D-mount lens to my Beaulieu 5008s and it simply could not be done. The focal distance of D-mount is 12.29mm, a far cry from C...

Re: Kodak awakens, new S8 camera announced at CES '16

I think that if what the bloomberg article points to is correct (4k scans), it would be a very smart move. I believe this camera will appeal to a lot of commercial-video production companies to provide a certain flavor, for music videos, or even if for just for specific shots in advertisements and p...

Re: Seems there is a pattern when technology replaces someth

Tube amps dipped in popularity in the 80's and 90's when solid-state was all the rage. Now they're super popular/expensive because they sound great (and distort in such a pretty way). If they have yet to pick up, I'd hate to see how much a vintage Fender tweed would go for in the future!

Re: A few new experimental films

I just wanted to post an update that Spatial was officially selected to show at the 42nd NW Filmmakers' Fest. If anyone is in Portland and would care to see it on the big screen it will be playing tomorrow at 7pm at the Whitsell Auditorium in the Portland Art Museum as a part of the second short-fil...

Re: Angenieux 6-80mm for Beaulieu 5008s help

I did just find this in an old thread from 2003 (from a "Guest" user) I have 2 Beaulieu 5008's - one is the early non-multispeed model with the Angenieux lens, the other is the last production multispeed model with the Schneider lens, LED's in viewfinder, and daylight filter switch on the ...

Re: Angenieux 6-80mm for Beaulieu 5008s help

yeah, I've tried adjusting the zoom speed to no avail. The curious thing is that when I do try and zoom using the motor, the internal red light-meter LED activates (as if the exposure is incorrect even if it has enough light), which makes me think that maybe the motor is shorting somewhere and drawi...

Re: Angenieux 6-80mm for Beaulieu 5008s help

I have considered taking off the motor, but I really like the smooth-zooms I get with it (my results by hand have been jerky, although attaching a crank, like Angenieux made for the 12-120 lenses, to control the zoom would be great, if that's even possible). I have also found that the reglo-zoom con...

Re: Angenieux 6-80mm for Beaulieu 5008s help

thanks for the response, aj. The zoom does work (it is not seized, can be turned by hand), and the batteries work, too (and it provides enough power to operate the zoom-motor for my other, Schneider 6-70, zoom lens). I did just buy another Angénieux 6-80 lens (for cheap) that I will try replacing...

Angenieux 6-80mm for Beaulieu 5008s help

So I bought an Angénieux f1.2 6-80mm lens for a Beaulieu 5008s on Ebay, and after it arrived I have had a few issues. the first was that it did not screw onto the camera fully, but I was able to fix this easily with instructions from an old post (taking off the reglo-zoom motor-assembly and loose...
