Re: Single frame advance on an Elmo ST-180 projector?

I just replaced a projector's motor with a stepper motor, using software to drive it at whatever rate one likes, and stop/start it at any position one likes. While not an Elmo ST-180, most projectors can be adapted in a similar way, and I imagine the ST-180 would be no different. Ah cool thankyou. ...

Single frame advance on an Elmo ST-180 projector?

Just wondering if anyone knew a way to advance a film frame by frame in an Elmo ST-180 projector? And if so, would the shutter blades move accordingly, just like when it's running at 18 / 24fps? For example, when a frame lands in the gate, after advancing the film frame by frame, would the shutter b...

Trailer for my new film

This is a trailer I made for a short film of mine called Island Odyssey. I'll be submitting the film to various film festivals and see how it goes. Hate to say this but it did not originate on film. However, a number of years ago, I had started a similar project shot on 16mm with a Krasnogorsk 3 and...

Re: Has this happened to you?

I once set up my Canon 1014E right next to an open car park to shoot some time lapse from across the road. There was one single car in the carpark that was slowly making it's way to the exit near where I was. An old couple were seated in the front and they pulled up right beside me. The elderly driv...

Re: Virtual Dub's Deshaker is driving me crazy

There was a little bit of a breeze now and again but unlikely enough wind to move it. And it looked very stable the whole time. Yes the legs are black - interesting theory though there are struts on the legs to keep their position consistent. It's a time lapse of the tide coming in at the sea shore ...

Re: Virtual Dub's Deshaker is driving me crazy

So what's causing the shaking in your timelapse? A not so sturdy tripod? Yea it's likely the tripod. Ive been shooting time lapses for well over a decade and they've all been rock steady....until now. I got a new tripod recently which is quite light weight. I'm used to using all metal tripods but t...

Re: Virtual Dub's Deshaker is driving me crazy

This would have never happened with a Bolex H16 and a nice Bell & Howell projector. Digital workflows sure can be frustrating. True. Though the issue could have occurred with the telecined film! The problem has now been fixed - it just started randomly working again. When I was shooting on film...

Virtual Dub's Deshaker is driving me crazy

Ive got some time lapse footage which has some unwanted movement and it is to be incorporated into a film that I'm submitting to a film festival. I'm having mixed success with Virtual Dub's Deshaker tool. Sorry if this is a little off topic but the footage was obtained from digital stills (not film....

Some Eumig Nautica underwater footage

This was from a transfer that I had done in about the late 90s / early 2000s. Unfortunately transferred to vhs tape as that was the only editable video format that I had at the time. I came across these strange looking creatures in a tidal pool in South Australia some years ago. I had never seen the...

Re: 24 FPS VS 18 FPS

A Super8 camera I used years ago could do 16 fps and the footage looked great - that 2 fps difference from 18 was really quite noticeable. Gave the work that 1920s silent movie look, which we exploited by setting the film in the 1920s Sounds like a fun project and I'd like to see the results. Would...

Re: Recommend me a good tape splicer?

In any case it sounds like you know what you are doing, regardless of terminology. :) Well I did learn a thing or two from my film / media major at university. Anyhow, this footage will be transferred and then edited digitally. It was my original plan to edit it on film (and I admit it would have b...

Re: Recommend me a good tape splicer?

you then pull in each shot from the film bin, in the desired order and splice them together. The first time is called an "assemble edit" where there's no particular concern for which frame the cut occurs on, just the order of the shots. Yea I always start with a 'rough cut' (that's the te...

Re: Recommend me a good tape splicer?

there is a manual for the CIR splicer at the bottom of my page: Ah thankyou. Ive just been reading through it. Overall, fairly straight forward except....I'm puzzled by the position of the cutting blade. It looks like it's nowhere near the film or film pins (it's off to the side of the splicer.) I'...

Re: Recommend me a good tape splicer?

Does anyone have any links to instructions on how to use a tape splicer? A search on Google didn't turn up much at all. Ive used a 16mm tape splicer back in University but I can't remember the exact procedure. All that I can recall is that the film is joined end to end as opposed to overlapping (as ...

Re: Recommend me a good tape splicer?

Thankyou all for your suggestions. Bac, it's been a while since Ive done cement splicing. However, I can tell you my recollections about using this method. If I recall correctly, I was able to scrape off the emulsion from the left side of the frame relatively quickly. However, I always found the emu...
