Super8 film is more readily available in a range of emulsions than Standar 8mm now. Most S8 cameras in good working order will give acceptable results. Which camera you choose depends on what sort of filming you intend to do. For film that is to be projected, 18 frames per second is adequate. High-r...

Is this the one:

The £35 start price is not bad, but I would think hard about the BIN price. Of course the camera cost around £150 new, 30 years ago.

The 518SV is a nice little camera: all the features that you normally need; fairly light weight; robust. I use one regularly and get good results.

It is worth what you are prepared to pay for a good camera.

8mm striping history

If anyone is interested in the early days of 8mm, I have added a page on
the early history of home movie sound striping to my Walton Home Movies web page:

http://www.isoplethics.co.uk/walton/walton.htm

Any comments or additons will be welcome as usual.

I have a Eumig 810D, similar to the one shown in the link. It works well on both S8 and R8 sound/silent.

The 800 series are of solid diecast construction. Later series had plastic cases.

Try

Note that these tables do not include the increase in aperture to compensate for light loss in the viewfinder system.

The earlier Technicolour 2-strip process (from about 1918) could be quite convincing, depending on the range of colours in the subject.

The sound on disc system was used before 1914, but the inherent problems prevented its wider exploitation.

Home striping probably isn't cost effective, especially paste striping. I do my own laminate striping, but, if I was honest with myself, the main advantage is flexibility and the pleasure of fiddling rather than cost. Paste striping would be more expensive to set up for. If you must have past stripe...

I just clean with isopropyl alcohol, but I lubricate all the projector film path with a good spray furniture polish like Pledge. There are marvelous lubricants out there that are claimed as 'plastic safe', but when you ask the manufacturer if they are film safe, they go coy and advise to you ask the...
