Re: I'm Back

I haven't seen "Sherlock". However, the cinematography may be terrible regardless of what camera they used to shoot with.

Mitch.

That was kind of my point.

Re: Kodak has a secret nuclear reactor

I guess Ford did not make it.

Growing up in Detroit I was told that they had but often times things get lost in your brain with time.

Re: Thoughts on Modern Cameras

I've never met a pro-shooter use film/tape interchangeably. I have met lots of people pros included use the generic term 'film' to describe the act or as a generic noun. "I just landed a film in June." "We start filming in June." Never "I rented the Sony F65 Film camera.&quo...

Re: Making HD video look like black and white film

I agree with Will2.

1) The jitter should go.

2) Not all film has a lot of dust. Just bad film does. And, the dust seemed to stay in the same spot when you made it pop.

Try a grain filter but don't go overboard. Try a better schmutz filter too.

Re: Thoughts on Modern Cameras

Wado You miss the point. I know you are being hyperbolic when you say making a cut degrades the image. But, if you think that film is all there is then you are missing out not only on work but options. I'm sure in 1865 people thought that painting was the only way to truly capture a person's essence...

Re: Kodak has a secret nuclear reactor

Scot Actually this was never a true "Secret". There were quite a few reactors of this size all over the USA. Many universities had them. The US Navy runs reactors of this size on every sub, aircraft carrier and many other ships. I worked on a film about the University of Washington's react...

MIKI-814

Well, it is the state of the world. Unfortunately pixels are quickly replacing silver halide. I will continue to shoot film but I can't keep my head in the sand when it comes to cameras and camera tech.

Re: Thoughts on Modern Cameras

Roger By no means do I understand CCD or CMOS to any sort of level beyond what camera manufacturers tell. That is why until now I haven't really thought about it. Rolling Shutter artifacts suck. It is one reason why I have stayed away with shooting a lot of video with my Nikon. Dalsa makes a CMOS th...

Re: Thoughts on Modern Cameras

OK. I did a bit of catching up on CMOS. With 22 Nanometer technology I'm kind of at a loss as to how the SOC of CMOS is some how more complex than other silicon fabrications. Once again I am pretty ignorant to the pressing of chips. But, my understanding of CMOS is that the processing lives directly...

Re: Thoughts on Modern Cameras

Good to know.

I thought CMOS were more like SOC architecture.

Either way. At the end of the day there is more talk about pixels and less talk about use.

Thanks for the info.

Good read for the Gen-Pop but hardly anything new.

Didn't watch the trailer but perhaps I will.

Re: Thoughts on Modern Cameras

Roger Pardon my ignorance but my understanding is this. CMOS sensors also contain architecture (additional chips) to process the information on sensor itself. Kind of like "System on Chip" computing. It is what this back side processing is or rather is not doing that causes the rolling shu...

Re: Thoughts on Modern Cameras

CMOS has issues and so does CCD.

I think that CMOS' issues go away if it truly takes 24 unique frames per second.

CMOS fails when you are shooting with an SLR in video and it rolls the frames.
