Re: The new Muller HDS scanner, what do you think about that

Roger, as one of your (very) early customers, I am very appreciative of what you have done, and continue to do. I think the Retro machine is a stroke of genius. You have reduced the complexity down to a level that allows most people to make very good transfers. Thank you. Certainly building a scanne...

Re: The new Muller HDS scanner, what do you think about that

Andreas-- don't throw away the FDL-60 yet. My next version has a central spine for the light, gate, and camera that can be used within a larger chassis. The idea is to make it modular, and adaptable to any transport. I have a spare Spirit chassis that will eventually be utilized in this way. The Xen...

It is good to know about both Film9 and the FilmFabriek software being based on your work. The whole avisynth environment is difficult to un...

Re: The new Muller HDS scanner, what do you think about that

The earlier Muller scanner was a nice piece of work. I saw the one they had at the Internet Archive a few years ago. It has a nice mechanical design, and uses scientific cameras for the imaging, so you can select your own level of cost versus resolution. Solid European engineering. I think the cost ...

Re: 24 FPS VS 18 FPS

I have a couple of super8 filmmakers who are shooting shorts and features. One DP shoots at 24 but has us transfer at 18fps. His subject is usually surfing and he does it this way to give a slight slow-mo effect to the footage. And even on the non-surf subjects he likes the effect. The DP working on ...
