Re: Awesome Wedding Footage!

...nice work Seth. Will there be a sound design? Music probably? I like the portraiture and the fact that you allowed the camera to linger on faces. I would say the medium shots are looking the best. My critique is that you overused the panning technique - often starting shots and finishing shots in...

editing mpeg4 in FCP[??s]

...so I'm warming up to the idea of these micro-video cameras that are recording 1920X1080 to tiny little SD cards in mpeg4. I like the economy and size of the cameras and am considering the Canon HF100 (or something like it) to use as a field research camera for my documentary work. I understand th...

...It doesn't work for me either. Says the BBcode is "turned off" and I can't figure out how to turn it on.

Suggestions?

Re: Nikon D700

.....nice! finally a full-frame Nikon digi-SLR that will be cheaper than the D3. Opens up many more possibilities for those of us with F-mount glass.

...it's normal for that lens to have tension. Everything on the lens should have tension. focus, aperture, zoom. It's one of the few Super 8 cameras that actually has a cine lens..

Re: So who's shooting a feature?

....interesting. I hadn't thought about WGBH. Yesterday afternoon I met up with Nigel who posts here and we talked about ITVS and the virtues of the "PBS-hour" for documentary work. Given the current state of state of independent filmmaking these days playing the lottery has better odds th...

Re: Greenhouse Effect - experimental short film shot on super 8

Andres, nice work. Very moody stuff. and the photography is great. I'm amazed that you were able to hold on to so much detail in the macro shots with the off-the-wall transfer. Right on! I like the Spanish title "Efecto Invernadero" better than the english translation. What are you going t...

Re: So who's shooting a feature?

....I know! Matt's graphs are a powerful reminder where the "dead zones" are. Makes me question my logic of producing an hour-long film. I need to do some thinking about that. And of course don't let these graphs discourage. It isn't as if festivals don't accept films in these dead zones. ...

Re: Shikashika screening at AFI

Well, of course it was only good mooded sarcasm. Hence quotes around the word treated. Likely things look far better then I can guess. Even on these big screens. ...yeah - digital projection seems to be arriving at the same place digital music recording arrived at about a decade ago. Sure the highs...

Re: So who's shooting a feature?

So Steve in aiming for a TV hour does that mean you have a TV contract lined up - over here (Australia) there's not too many stations that would take a one off hour long drama - perhaps SBS would. It's a shame though - is the screening prospects better where you are? Having said that though I'm goi...

Re: So who's shooting a feature?

Scot, This next year I'll be working on two films: a super 8 short and a super 16 feature. The feature will be a TV hour (52:30)in HD and the short will be 6 minutes in SD. We are currently in the research stages of both projects, but the short may have to happen sooner than later given some time/re...

Re: Shikashika screening at AFI

Thanks Rick. It would be great to screen at University of Toronto. I will be sure to send it in and will check back in the fall when submissions are being accepted. Two July screenings include: Long Island International Film Expo 20 Jul | 2:00pm | Bellmore Movies 222 Pettit Ave. Bellmore NY 40th Auc...

Re: Shikashika screening at AFI

aj, We've been projecting digitally. The quality of digital projection varies greatly across festivals. I have screened on cheap digital projectors via DVD with results in the loss of highlights and shadow detail and introduces digital artifacts. I have also been fortunate to screen on state-of-the ...
