Re: Synthesised reality

Carl, these look beautiful. They have a lovely quality – a kind of dream-like ambivalence. I look forward to seeing where you go next with this idea.

Re: Seems there is a pattern when technology replaces someth

I've been trying to notice a pattern from other things that have had to compete with digital. Been looking at Vinyl Records, audio cassettes, 8-tracks, mechanical watches, VHS, women and tube amps. Seems like when a new alternative technology comes out, the old one slowly declines to a low and then...

Re: what's supposed to happen when you overfix film?

To fix film adequately, place a blank strip of film in the fixer in daylight. Agitate as normal. Time just how long it takes to go perfectly clear. Double that time when you fix your film. You can repeat this any time you think your fixer is becoming exhausted. When the clearing time is doubled from...

Re: Need help getting performance from Eastman 4-x negative.

Can someone please explain the significance of the + and - numbers in this thread? The + number is for regular 8 and 16mm and refers to the number of frames the claw is away from the picture gate. If you have a camera and projector that both have +1, you'll get better registration than if you're ca...

Re: Wittner 200D under artificial light - filter?

Coming to my senses over this film and what lights I have. I will be better off using the Bowens 300w daylight with film rated at full 200ASA, so getting a working aperture of f2.8 at 24fps (1/58) at around 3' from the light. That gives me leeway of a whole extra stop too, if I need it. Borrowing an...

Re: Ferrania hope to start film manufacture in 2014

Anyone following Ferrania? I can understand things take time and it is a huge task they have taken upon them, but I sincerely hope they will succeed. Here's the latest: http://www.filmferrania.it/news/ Cheers, Andreas I look every now and then. The last news about the installation of the 'big chill...

Re: Wittner 200D under artificial light - filter?

Among other things, many filmaker don't like this Aviphot 200D for i'ts lot of grain: I rather like it for some projects, it gives an idea of a "oniric", it's special. If we expect a film silky and Ok for the little details it's not a good, for me, but for other things is a very nice emul...

Re: Wittner 200D under artificial light - filter?

Actually the film is AGFA Aviphot 200D. Wittner finishes and repackages the film but does not manufacture the film. I have used the 200D indoors without movie lights and had good results since most indoor today is fluorescent or led and those sources work well with 200D without the blue filter. Usi...

Re: Wittner 200D under artificial light - filter?

Yes, that blue takes, relatively, a lot of light I use 80A filer also with my Fujica Zc 1000 Single 8, but it has an internal light meter, TTL, so just put the filter over the lens and the exposure meter automatically detects the lowering of light. But there who, even with the TTL system, prefers t...

Re: Super8data.com?

Is the site gone? And all the pictures? The archives don't seem to keep the pictures. Pav Be nice is if Wittner hosted the site. I mean all of us guys trying to find info on cameras we already own or want to buy need film stock! My guess is that unless someone can contact the owner, before his ISP ...

Thank-you, I didn't realise the filter was so dense.

Re: Wittner 200D under artificial light - filter?

Yes, I use that emulsion with Reflecta light, in Double 8 and Single 8, I use that filter. I have different sizes of it, for the various cameras. Good to hear from someone using it under artificial light. And do you rate it at 50ASA, as suggested? I'm not clear why it apparently loses 2 stops. Is t...

Found it:

Wratten 80A. In my case a 39mm filter was hard to find but I sourced one from the US.

Re: Super8data.com?

Smart move by Wittner. The domainname has so many links from all kind of websites. Now all that traffic goes to Wittner without any effort spent. Super8data really dropped the ball. How difficult is it and how much does it possibly cost to keep up a .com domain? And then of such popularity. Even wi...
