Good to be back!
I didn’t realize that this forum had come back from the dead! How long has it been back? I thought it had been permanently replaced by the Tapatalk version which, frankly, was dreadful. Looking forward to catching up with everyone.

Re: New Universal pricing w/free shipping!
Roger: Do you still have plans for specialized gates? We occasionally run into films with a curl or other warping that just don't run well through the Universal. We can capture them, but focus goes in and out among other issues. Hi! Yes, always experimenting with new gate designs and improvements. ...

Re: New Universal pricing w/free shipping!
Actually, that is something we are working on. It would be a combination film cleaner and rewind unit. Seems like it would be useful for archives and shops that transfer film regularly. I was tempted to pick up a cleaning machine when a local lab went out of business but it was the size of a vendin...

Re: New Universal pricing w/free shipping!
Roger, have you thought about creating a film cleaning unit? Maybe you can ask your customer base if there's a market for it but I bet a simple motorized cleaning solution would help improve the scans even more. Actually, that is something we are working on. It would be a combination film cleaner a...

Re: New Universal pricing w/free shipping!
Some day I hope your stuff will work natively using MacOS, without having to run Windows in Bootcamp or Parallels/VM Ware. The problem isn't about writing the software for a Mac but, rather, the drivers for the cameras we use are all Windows based. Without Mac drivers for the camera, there isn't mu...

Re: New Universal pricing w/free shipping!
Just an update about the sale: I have had a number of people contact me asking how long the sale will last. To facilitate this sale, we had gone ahead and ordered in quantity the various components required to build a number of units. Once these discount components are gone, the sale ends. Based on ...

New Universal pricing w/free shipping!
Hi, all! We've recently had some tariff induced increases in overhead from our vendors. I normally don't like to tie up Andreas' bandwidth here with promotional stuff but, to combat the increase, I've worked up some cost saving multi gate package prices and, for a limited time, I'm offering free shi...

Re: The Future of Film
He doesn't mention how much of the move to digital was pushed by long time industry veterans that were looking for digital projects to be on their resumé since it seemed like that's where everything was going. No-one wanted to be caught as the last guy using film. What most people don't realize is ...

Re: Any tutorial on how to capture color negative with RetroScan-HD Universal?
Hi, all I have considered doing a tutorial about how to handle color negative. The problem is that the results of handling color neg have far more to do with the skill of the shooter and their subsequent skills as a colorist than how the scanner or software functions. To put it simply, if the shoote...

New Universal 2K upgrade review
Just came aware of a really nice review on the 2K upgrade option we have for the Universal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UG1Zu9ty1-w&feature=youtu.be Starting at the beginning of September, the 2K camera will be the only camera we offer. We are phasing out the previous HD camera. It dates bac...

Re: How to measure 35mm film length in dark
I assume it is on a core. If you have some other already processed film, either 35mm or 16mm, you could put 200 feet of that processed film on another core and then temporarily put that loaded core on the intended split reel. This can obviously all be done in daylight. Just make sure that the 16mm c...
