Re: Huge differences in film prices between US and EU

Of course the standard Hamburger or classic pair of jeans index must be applied too. I.e. how much is the value of a film expressed relative to these. A 100D S8 50ft costs $17 in USA and Euro 12.20 at Super8.nl No processing. Both ex tax. Neither are price-stunters. Seems only Kodak Direct makes bet...

Re: Huge differences in film prices between US and EU

1 euro = 1.3755 US dollars Isn't that a 30% difference? No, that's not the point I want to make. 1 EUR is about 1.34 USD So if we in Europe pay for 15m of film (processing included and tax excluded) EUR 24 (which is about USD 34) you have an idea of how much the difference is with the price(s) you ...

Re: Huge differences in film prices between US and EU

I took the EU-price without VAT.
E.g.: 1 cartridge of about 15m S8 Kodak Ektachrome 100D processing included and VAT excluded: EUR 25 = USD 34 I think this is about 30% more expensive than a US-average price.

Huge differences in film prices between US and EU

I was wondering why there are such huge differences in prices of flim stock between Europe and the USA. The difference balances between 15 and 40% in favour of the US. I don't think this can be explained by the difference in exchange rate between the two currencies. I think a whole world of 8mm film...

Re: Building a new Super 8 camera--the toaster project?

Tim, I totally agree with you. You know that Hewlett Packard made very good and functional calculators. There have been and still are specimens that do their job after 40 years. HP-adepts recently thought: now they will make the ultimate calculator with a combination of financial, scientific and gra...

Re: Building a new Super 8 camera--the toaster project?

@etimh After about 50 years of experience in small gauge filming and with today's knowledge of hardware and firmware of any kind, we really could construct a super S8 camera, that surpasses anything we have seen in the 60's and 70's. The partial revival of Super-8 filming shows that many people lik...

Re: Using small apertures?

Ah, this is a discussion of the old school of photography! How to gain depth of field by manipulating diaphragm settings. I have a question: what camera are you going to use and what lens does it have?

Re: When was the last time you shot real movie film?

Today (Sept 22) I have shot my first S8 film (Ektachrome 100D) since 1992 with my Leicina Super RT1. Camera was doing its job as if it never had been in a kind of hibernation. And now waiting for the results... Film has been developed and is of great quality, so I think I will resume my old hobby. ...

Re: Problem with Speed Control Nizo 801

Hi Jan,

this also is quite useful information. I had spotted this site once, but didn't know the story of Nizo with the spare parts.

Thank you,
René

Re: Problem with Speed Control Nizo 801

Ah, now the picture is complete. Of course I would like you to do the job but I think it would be too costly as you live in Montreal. Repair costs will not be the problem but all the business on top of it (shipment, customs) are a serious bottleneck.
Thanks anyway for you advise!

Re: Problem with Speed Control Nizo 801

I see. Did you do it yourself? Does there exist a kind of repair manual of the Nizo 801 or at least a lay out? I think I could be able to do it myself, but without a plan I don't dare te make a move.

Re: When was the last time you shot real movie film?

Last time was 1992, I think. Before that my filming history dates from 1966! Have had quite a couple of cameras and now own a Nizo 801 Macro (doesn't work well) and a Leicina Super RT1 (as always without a flaw). Have ordered 5 new Ektachrome 100D's after having seen a couple of my old films.
