I had a brand new spring, ordered from the Bolex factory, put into a Bolex 16 RX, only a year or so ago.
I still find that absolutely amazing that such can be done.
The camera gets quite a workout in our workshop.

Re: Which external light meter do you use/recommend?
Yes, the way in which light meters work is not particularly complicated. A phone camera with appropriate software will give you the exact same reading that an expensive brand name light meter gives you. What will differ from one light meter to the next is not accuracy but things like usability, conv...

Re: Single frame advance on an Elmo ST-180 projector?
Ah cool thankyou. I'll have to read a bit more about stepper motors. It looked pretty versatile from that youtube link. So I suppose, if I wanted to, I could command it to advance just a single frame, have a rest and then advance another frame rather than let it run at a specified frame rate? You p...

Re: Single frame advance on an Elmo ST-180 projector?
I just replaced a projector's motor with a stepper motor, using software to drive it at whatever rate one likes, and stop/start it at any position one likes. While not an Elmo ST-180, most projectors can be adapted in a similar way, and I imagine the ST-180 would be no different. https://www.youtube...

Re: Need more help getting even lomo tank processing.
Thanks Carl! I know this camera normally gets very good registration for a non pin registered camera, especially at 8 fps. I think I set the driver to 1/4 microstep so it really jitters at 1 fps or less. I think that was my mistake Going to try it at 1/32 for my next film. Already turned the ampera...

Re: Need more help getting even lomo tank processing.
I'm no expert on Bolex, but in my experience the pressure plate doesn't appear to affect the registration by the claw, at least in a properly serviced camera. In fact sometimes I've run taken, known rock-steady, footage through the camera with a light behind the gate, just to check registration, ie...

Re: Need more help getting even lomo tank processing.
Thanks Carl, so you think the plastic itself causes problems? Wonder if one made of steel or aluminum would help. By the way, you have any films you made with your stepper driven bolex? If so how is the registration? Seems my bolex gets better registration at 8 fps than 24, was hoping going even sl...

Re: Need more help getting even lomo tank processing.
Carl, I didn't use the other spiral as the top but used the more open disc. Maybe it correlates to the arms on that? Since this affects black and white negative film most, does it affect tri-x processed as negative? So you're telling me to take the cover off in the dark while processing so I can lo...

Re: Need more help getting even lomo tank processing.
It is apparently a well known effect when processing B&W neg in a Lomo. It doesn't happen with colour or B&W reversal B&W neg, it would seem, is particularly sensitive to the geometry of the Lomo spiral - in particular the radial arms. The variation in density of the result appears to co...

Re: Logmars ready to purchase at Pro8mm
It is a year old thread. From the time things were in progress :) Revived because Escubria would like know if production of the Logmar has ceased and what likely was the reason for that. Ah yes. My mistake. I restarted a conversation that was almost a year old. But I learned something I didn't know...

I was nodding my head in agreement with almost everything these folks said... https://youtu.be/wr6NdyP4y-k A few of points that I noticed: A call to bring back reversal stocks and even older negative stocks with more grain and less latitude for more creative choices. Importance of finding line prod...

Re: Logmars ready to purchase at Pro8mm
Jesse Chambless of Chambless Cine Equipment in Ellijay, GA can recollimate an RX lens for non-RX use. I've purchased several Kern RX lenses and had Jesse recollimate them for use on Kodak K100, Bell & Howell 200, Bell & Howell 70DR, etc. As an added bonus, he's very pleasant to deal with. A...

Re: Logmars ready to purchase at Pro8mm
I love love love the IDEA of the Logmar but jeez. Their own PR seemed to imply I could just screw in my existing Bolex lenses as-is -- like you can screw in a pentax lens to a pentax mount -- but no, Pro8 has to calibrate the camera with each (?) lens, and that's gonna cost on top of the extra 1k t...

Film is a lot like waking up from such a dream.

Re: Removing Orange Mask from Colour Negative Scans
Another possibility (theory) for why the After Effects/Photoshop method might be giving better data, is that the RGB filters used in digital capture may not be ideal. One can imagine that the impurities which fustrate cyan and magenta dyes might also fustrate RGB filters in digital cameras, if in a ...
