Old Film

I have a lot of ektachrome 160 sound film. Some came out green. I'm trying to use a magenta color corecting filter for that.
Unless film that old was stored frozen in its original sealed packaging, color shifts like that are possible. :(

Old Film

Unexposed film is a perishable item. Cold storage will slow the changes that can degrade the image. For fast films, ambient radiation (e.g., cosmic rays, x-ray security inspection) may cause a buildup of fog and increased graininess. Here is information about film storage: http://www.kodak.com/US/en...

Super-8 and 16mm

When it comes to image quality, "Size Does Matter". A larger image area gives a sharper image and less graininess. Any unsteadiness is magnified less. Here is a directory of worldwide film labs and the services they offer: http://www.kodak.com/US/en/motion/industry/dyn_labs.shtml?id=0.1.4....

VNF Processing

Here are the processing specifications for the Kodak VNF-1 process: http://www.kodak.com/US/plugins/acrobat/en/motion/support/processing/h2411/h2411.pdf Although similar to the E-6 process, it is somewhat different. Super-8

Thanks Roger. I share your feelings that Super-8 is often the entry point for tomorrow's great filmmakers. Steven Spielberg certainly started out that way. 8) Over the years, Kodak has suported the Super-8 format more than any other manufacturer. We still devote a section of our website to the forma...

Magnetic Striping

Dear Maurizio: The solvents used in magnetic striping required increasingly more efficient "scrubbing" and recycling of the vapors. For the relatively small volume of magnetic striped films, the investment in new equipment could not be justified. Part of the reason most videotape and other...

Film Alive and Thriving in Theatres

Last year was the BEST EVER for Kodak Entertainment Imaging, with record amounts of FILM being used in theatres around the world. Kodak continues to invest about 70% of motion picture R&D in FILM related programs, with four NEW camera films introduced last year, and more to come this year (VISIO...

Back from the Drive-In

I'm back from the UDITOA Convention in Florida, where I spoke to 128 drive-in theatre owners about how to maintain proper screen luminance on those huge screens. There are over 400 drive-ins still in operation. Fun group of people, mostly "mom and pop" theatre owners, rather than large cor...

On the Road Again

And now, just as things are getting busy here in the wonderful world of 8mm, I will be "on the road" to Florida. I'm speaking at the United Drive-In Theatre Owners Association. I'll have my notebook computer, but accessing hundreds of e-mails and postings is really slow on a hotel phone li...

I've Shot Lots of Super-8

I've shot lots of Super-8, including for a filmmaking class in college, and when my daughters were growing up. Workhorse cameras were a Kodak M22 and Ektasound 240. Haven't been very active of late, but have not gone over to "the Dark Side" of digital video.

Regular 8

Then John should approach his Kodak contact with a business case, including sufficient volumes to justify additional films in that format.
