Dead or Alive, Film is Thriving

Variety carried a headline article "Film Is Dead" when Ampex introduced 2-inch videotape recording in 1956. Last year, Kodak sold more motion picture film than any time in history, and this year is even better. Guess which format is "dead"? Today, digital origination is used for ...

Kodak Film Manufacturing

Kodak coats motion picture films as "wide rolls" approximately 54 inches wide, and many thousands of feet long. These rolls are then slit to the width used by the customer: 19 strips of 70mm, 20 strips of 65mm, 38 strips of 35mm, 83 strips of 16mm, etc. The strip number is often part of th...

Blinding Movie Lights

I remember relatives shooting 8mm KODACHROME movies indoors at important family events when I was a child. Four short-lived high wattage spotlamps on a "light bar" with ceramic sockets to take all the heat. Would blow the fuse if anything else was on that circuit! Looking at those old film...

KODAK EKTACHROME 100D Color Reversal Camera Film 5285/7285

The KODAK EKTACHROME 100D Color Reversal Camera Film 5285/7285 is quite popular for both 16mm and 35mm users, primarily for creating an alternative "look", either with normal E-6 processing or "cross processing" in the ECN-2 process: http://www.kodak.com/US/en/motion/products/rev...

7299

The new 7299 film is a low contrast, long latitude stock that requires a digital "box" to provide the desired "look". When displayed with a normal contrast "look", the film has image structure (grain and sharpness) similar to Kodak VISION2 500T Color Negative Film 7218.

Film Processing and the Environment

Modern film processes (including K-14) have been reformulated for minimum environmental impact. Labs recycle the chemistry, recover almost all of the silver, and use Kodak's assistance to meet environmental standards: http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=2879/4191/4197&pq-locale=...

Rem-Jet on E-160

I did an old Ektachrome 160 film two weeks ago. Somewhat greenish but in all usable. Is there a way to dissolve the black backing or what is this black matter? (It is not parts of my LOMO :) ) I wiped it off after it came out wet but there are still traces on some places. That "black matter&qu...

Re: Can you really load a daylight roll in daylight???

Ok, this is a head scratcher. It's a daylight roll (16mm) but the sticker on the plastic canister says "OPEN ONLY IN TOTAL DARKNESS." I know I'm not to load a cam in direct sun, but is total darkness really required? Yes, I searched. To no avail. The load in darkness recommendation is to ...

Karen DuMont is indeed the "go to" person to get the ball rolling on new origination products, as she is the Product Manager for Origination Products. But there has to be a viable business case. Pricing is mostly based on the cost of manufacture. Small rolls and small volumes cost more to ...

Re: Film Suggestions

Best chance for additional films are films that are already used in another format (e.g., 16mm, 35mm). How expensive to Kodak can be the releasing of Ektachrome E-family slide stocks for Motion picture films? Carlos. Film is a persishable item. What doesn't get sold in a reasonable amount of time i...
