As has been mentioned many times on this forum, the standard 6V, 10 W editor lamp can be purchased from most shops specializing in motor cycle spares for about £0.70 or 1 Euro.

In principle, you can have as much light as you like - if you can manage the engineering. Using a different, higher-power halogen lamp will require a special, external, power supply. In addition, you will have to get made, or machine for yourself, the necessary accurate, stable lamp mounting. The ul...

Striping 64T

The guys at Smallformat Magazine are claiming that 64T cannot be laminate striped, and that Kodak can't explain why there is a problem.

This seems odd, since 64T is acetate based and can be cement spliced.

Before I waste time and money trying this for mayself, does anyone have any other input?

Just phoned two local branches of Jessops to see if they stocked 64T. At first store, the youth on the phone referred to it as 'tape' and suggested I try another branch in town (Norwich). Phoned this other branch. Another youth informed me that 'it (64T) was becoming very rare' they didn't stock it,...

Although S8 'scope requires a certain amount of work to get A lens and camera to work together, the projected results can be well worth the trouble! An efficient 100 W lamp projector will fill a screen 8' x 3'. Increase the lamp to 150 W, and a 12' x 4'6" screen can be used. Scope is especially...

For silent, the Eumig 500 and 600 series projectors are very good and reliable. They all use readily available lamps. You should be able to pick one up on Ebay just about in your price range. For sound, the 800 series are difficult to beat. Lamps also readily available. These usually go for $100 - $...

Are you saying that the tapering compensates for the necessity to have teeth spaced at different intervals for the two types of film. Don't R and S have a different spacing interval besides different size holes? That is the clever bit! Because the teeth taper in two planes, and because S8 film has ...

It doesn't need two sets of sprockets because of the design of the sprockets. The teeth are tapered both ways: both at both sides and from the inside, and there is a rim. R8 film sits right down on the sprocket teeth and inside the rim. S8 film sits on the top of the teeth, and on top of the rim. Ve...

One further point with regard to cleaning. It is advisable to clean film at least twice before striping. However, when using pure isopropyl alcohol (propan-2-ol) the second cleaning should be at least 24 h after the first since the first clean seems to 'activate' the emulsion surface. For striped fi...

An alternative is to lubricate the film path in the projector. This is best done with a good spray polish, such as Pledge, which also helps clean the rubbing surfaces and sound heads.

The Kowa/BH has a larger diameter thread than the straight 8Z. It is a standard 52 mm x 0.7 filter thread.

I have one of these that is used for filming: a superb lens. It is essentially the 8Z, but with a rear thread designed to fit in the B&H projection lens.

Kodachrome fades ???

Found this posted on an unrelated Forum: Kodachrome dyes last a long time in dark storage with a 0.1 density decrease every 90 years in the magenta layer - and the other dyes are even more stable. In light storage conditions though, Kodachrome has real problems. Fluorescent light creates a 0.1 densi...
