Re: Hall Sensor and magnet and trigger
What did you use for a magnet and is it possible to post a photo of the mounting of the magnet and sensor?

Re: Telecine DIY in Action
Hi Mattias,
I'm sure it was likely posted here somewhere in the past, but could you post the circuit and parts for the hall effect transistor trigger circuit you use? I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
John

Re: Telecine Computer Set Up
I don't know if you'll be able to zoom in enough without some modification of the projector chassis to get the camera closer. Roger may have some insight on this though, as he builds them on a regular basis.

Re: Regular 8mm magnetic sound film frame rate
Thanks for the quick replies guys.
Apparently, Kodak and Sears (Bell & Howell) had regular 8mm sound model projectors that had the ability to playback film at either 16 or 24 fps according to Phil's Vintage Movie Films and Collectibles Regular 8mm projector's page.
Would be nice to find an ...

Regular 8mm magnetic sound film frame rate
Anyone happen to know the typical frame rate this film was shot at? I know silent is typically 16 fps, but I see many playback machines that do not offer 16 fps as a choice - only 18 & 24 fps.
I've googled, but can't find the right combination of terms to get an answer.
Thanks in advance,
JP

Unprocessed film cartridges
I was given a bag of films to transfer and 5 are Super 8 cartridges that haven't been processed. Three of them say "exposed" on the film that can be seen, the other two don't seem to be at the end and/or may not have been used in a camera, but I can't tell.
Only one of the cartridges was in a box ...

Re: Workprinter XP to Sniper (Kinda)
Yes, you are correct about the lens. My plan in to use the Raynox MSM-505 (37mm) attached to the front of the camera (also 37mm) to take a close up image of the film gate. From all of my calculations it should fit without modification?? Not sure yet as I don't have the camera or lens in hand until ...

Re: Workprinter XP to Sniper (Kinda)
I'd check with Roger on this, but I think you'll need a lens in front of the camera to be able to zoom into the frame of 8 and super 8mm film. You may also need to modify the chassis to allow enough room for the lens to get close enough to focus on the film. It certainly can be done, as I have ...

Re: Can you clean magnetic sound film?
Thanks for the quick replies. This is the first time dealing with sound film for transfer. I didn't want to start cleaning it and have the sound stripes start peeling off the film or wipe the magnetic information off the strips.

Can you clean magnetic sound film?
Hi all. I'm transferring a collection of Super 8 home movie films with magnetic sound and I was wondering if it is safe to use a cleaner like Edwal's Anti-Stat film cleaner to clean the film without affecting the sound track.
I surely don't want to destroy the sound track by cleaning the film and I ...

Re: Over 8 hours to upload to Vimeo??
It's a regular DV avi file at 208MB.
Well, that shouldn't be an issue then. Currently, they have a weekly upload limit of 500MB, but I'm not sure if they have a PER upload limit
I was assuming that Vimeo would compress it at their end and make it smaller.

Re: Over 8 hours to upload to Vimeo??
What's the size of the file you are trying to upload? Most HD videos (and possibly many SD videos) are uploaded in some type of compressed format.
Might be possible you may be exceeding the upload limit, or they may be having a problem on their end.
Rename your file and try uploading it again.

Re: DIY Telecine: Why switch motors?
I use the same camera system as Fred. Theoretically, this setup can capture very close to 30 fps. Maximum capture speed would be limited to the drive's write speed, the shutter setting of the camera and obviously the physical speed of the mechanics. If using a fast RAID array, the drives should have ...
