It's about time to send two of mine back to him for a checkup...it's been like 7 years now...although I haven't noticed any issues.

I know it's fun doing it yourself but I bet Tommy at www.videofilmsolutions.com could probably do that for you at a fair price...he works with the National Archives to do all sorts of film services. He can do 16mm optical sound as well.

Scan Station is just about the best you can do as long as the operator knows what he's doing. Only thing I would ask for is full 2k scans. 2048×1536 is much higher than HD with pillar box (1920x1080). That's useful if you are finishing in HD and need to do a pan & scan. It's been that way for a while when getting quality scans. If you're just projecting there's still a savings with Super 8 but 16 has quite a few advantages without that much of a price jump.
