As of Jan 5, 2015 motion picture products go up 10%

As well, we have discontinued the 2% cash discount when customers pay via
credit card.

KODAK Motion Picture Products Price Catalog Today, Kodak is announcing
price increases effective January 5, 2015 on a variety of different motion
picture products. Due to decreasing sales volumes and increasing
manufacturing costs on motion picture film stocks, we need to take this
action in order to sustain a reliable supply to the market. Revised
Canadian prices for all formats and catalog numbers for the following
products will be effective with orders received after the opening of
business hours January 5, 2015.

They're such idiots.
Seriously.
If they had kept 100D and bothered doing a bit of PR and marketing, sales wouldn't be decreasing.
Ektachrome had been selling better than any other recent stock, because people could shoot and project colour film.
So many people I talk to don't even think super8 is still being made, partly due to Kodak's lethargy and lack of interest.

If you buy direct from Kodak with the (30%!) educational discount (if you qualify, but ALL students, faculty, staff should qualify), Vision 3 Super 8 cartridges currently come to $16.52 per unit. just sayin'

also, I work at the NW Film Center in Portland Oregon, and we sell Super 8 and 16mm (100ft rolls) from our equipment room for cheaper than available online

Silver !

Silver & Gold prices are decreasing dramatically

I read that 80% to 100% of the silver can be recovered after the film is processed.
But since Kodak usually doesn't process film, this is lost to them.

All film contains silver. Some more than others. On B&W film, the dark part of the emulsion is where the silver stayed, and the light part is where it has been washed away. In color processing bleach softens all the silver and washes away in the fixer. The fixer from all film processors contains this silver in the solution. To extract it from the fixers of the various processors, a metal drum is spun in the fixer with an electrical charge. It is very similar to how silver plating is done. This silver is then dried and sold back as metal. All film processors do this, and it is content and film stock dependent on how much silver is left. The silver recovered is very pure.

We decided that maybe this silver could be made into items rather than just sold back. A metal furnace was purchased to allow for melting and pouring of the silver. We make molds from graphite blocks, which are machined on our in house CNC mill. They are hand poured and finished in our machine shop.

Each item is the aggregate of thousands of images and sounds. They have beautifully pure reflectivity because it is pure silver. Sterling contains about 7.5% copper to make it harder. but this causes the color to be a little off. These items can be purchased and custom designs can be milled.
