Bolex H16 Loop Question

A while back I shot some 100D in my H16 and it came back all blurry. I was told it lost the loop. I am about to shoot a new roll and I made sure there was a loop on both sides of the gate. My question is, does it matter if one loop is bigger than the other? Or is it more important that there is slack between the sprockets and the gate?
