drive belt for elmo K100 SM

Post by Archaeo »

I've got an elmo super 8 projector, a K100 SM, but the rubber drive belt has perished. I'm looking to see if anyone knows either where to get a new one, or whether they're had experience using an unofficial replacement part (ie a rubber o-ring or something of the sort).

Cheers

Yes, the Belts Galore article here on this site is worth reading. I followed the instructions given in that article for making a belt using Polycord. Here is the direct link to the article:

I bought a few feet of Polycord from Small Parts, Inc. and made a belt for my Elmo ST-800. It was very easy to do, and it works great.

I threaded the Polycord around the gear pulleys first before joining the ends so I wouldn't have to take apart the gears. If you do it this way, get someone to help you as you won't have much room to manuever. I had someone else hold a Bic lighter while I melted the ends of the Polycord, then hand me a piece of grooved wood to serve as a jig for joining the melted ends of the cord together. You have to work fast, but it is easy to do. Practice once or twice with some short pieces to get the hang of it.
