adjusting potentiometer for telecine

Post by Justin Lovell »

can anyone out there provide some help or knowledge into how to adjust the potentiometers on a projector to do be able to do telecine?

the projector i have is a sankyo sound 800.

i could provide still images of the inside of the projector if someone could tell me what i need to modify...

thanks indeed,

That really depends on the projector. And even then, how will you tell when it's at the right speed? Perhaps this would help:

i've heard that you can 'easily' modify the potentiometer to project @ 20 fps for telecine, but maybe i'd be better off just getting a workprinter...

only thing making the choice hard for me is when i look at "sleep always" they did their own telecine by modifying their projector and doing a wetgate transfer and it turned out really really good...

hmm.... opinions?

How do you do a wet gate transfer? I'm guessing that it involves wetting the film that would then need drying again? So how could you do it on a regular projector without the film sticking into a big clump afterwards? Unless you were confident enough about your results and never wanted to xfer it/project it again?

well, professional wetgate transfers use a liquid that drys very fast and have a special drying chamber before the take up reel.
for a DIY solution, i would go with a frame by frame transfer anyway, which would give the film enough time to dry if you make an appropriate construction. not sure what kind of liquid to use for optimal results without having it exploding or dying of cancer or something though.

Hey! Be careful! Perc is a very dangerous product.
It's one of the best filmcleaners also, but again, dangerous.

Fred.
