Just for the record, I don't need a digital counter.

I am not sure if I can trust someone who can't take pictures that are in focus with designing filmmaking gear.... :-)

Not a bad point really - if you're going to spend this much money/go to this much trouble why not just shoot 16mm where your post production/screening/distribution options are so much better -- unless of course you really want the lovely texture of Super 8.

About the Supermag - it looks so big next to that camera which kind of negates one of the great points about Super 8 cameras - how small and portable they are. I think the pics were taken hand held with a bit of movement not so much out of focus - but still not crash hot. If I was developing this thing I'd have heaps of info/updates etc on the page (with out giving away the mechanics etc) - because it's a great way to build up interest in the project and get a following - at the moment it's all very mysterious (who is making it?) which leads to all sorts of assumptions (whether grounded or not) about how good it will be etc. I hope the maker is reading this - this is all meant as constructive criticism.

With lack of information we start to answer questions ourselves.

Like what are the stresses on the camera where the mag fixes. Is all that weight going to eventually cause damage to the camera. It may be that it is made out of carbon fibre and weighs virtually nothing (although don't forget the weight of the film) but we don't know this.

That Beaulieu R16 16mm camera has a 200' mag. So you can only get 5 minutes of film into it.

The supermag400 hold 400' of Super8, so you can get 20 minutes of film into it.

How much is "This much money"? I don't see a pice list on the supermag400 yet.

The mag cost, hunting a camera, ordering 1000 ft spools from over seas (in my case) after all that trouble i'd buy that R16 instead and shoot 16mm. maybe someday i'll move up to one of those :D

If 400' rolls of super8 stock were readily available at a decent price then a crystal synced Nizo 6080 w/ one of those would make a badass little sync sound camera.

The Supermag400 was developed by Creative Image Productions in Arizona by Dave Sipmann. You can read all about it here with some Q & A:
