Bolex h16 camera rattling squeaky noise

Post by The_kodak_kid »

I just took my bolex for its first test yesterday and noticed every other few seconds I’d hear a subtle squeaky noise. I’m pretty sure it needs lubrication,

but how long does the camera have? And how will the test footage look?

And also does anyone in the Los Angeles county lube up bolexes?

After you find a tech to CLA your camera you'll know the answer, if any, to your first two questions.

Don’t know much about the Pacific Rim scene, Jaakko Kurhi maybe. http://www.jkcamera.com

In any case I take Paillard-Bolex products. A complete overhaul of your camera would cost around $500. I give two years warranty on my work. If you indicate model and serial number, I can quote more precisely.

Squeaking noise often comes from the winding handle.
Wind the spring fully and remove the winding handle.
Run the camera. If the noise is gone, you know it's only the winding handle making the noise.
While the handle is removed, put a small drop of oil on the handle axis.
Reinstall the handle on the camera.
