Rewinders capacity

Post by 7OSE9 »

Does anyone know the maximum reels size that can be used with these Zeiss rewinders? Usually present with the Moviscop viewer
Thank you.

The spindle is 5½ inches above the base, so an 800-foot reel will fit.

Neumade 16mm 800-foot metal reels I've got are 10½ inches in diameter.

I use those little Zeiss rewinds on their original mounting board in my makeshift darkroom, and decided against getting 800 foot rewinds to use with it. The bottom of the shaft is tapered, and I was concerned the edge of the reel might rub against it. It might work, but I wasn't sure, so I use the smallest 400 foot split reel ( 7 inch diameter) and it works great. I don't have the 800 foot one, so I can't say for sure.

A Neumade 800-foot 16mm metal reel clears the base of the rewinder, but only by a millimeter or two. I wouldn't want to have to wind 800-feet of 16mm film with the tiny crank, however. A 400-foot reel is probably a practical maximum.

I still do not have the two rewinders in my hand, but I know that if I wanted to use 800 feet and I would have to buy an empty reel, I would have to be careful with the diameter. I could just look for a Neumade 800ft reels.

I have a Muray De Luxe editor + Muray M rewinders for more larger sizes (not giant sizes, I don't edit very large 16mm).
