Apart from the candy red finish, this camera has been around for quite a while. I bought my specimen (through Wittner) in 2011 - obviously in rather un-fancy grey finish of the camera body. Also, mine came with a different lens (Schneider-Kreuznach f1.8/6-66mm). This 50th anniversary edition seems to be a bit odd, in my opinion. The candy red colour may well appeal to people looking after some nice gimmick. On the other hand, the price tag and the nature of the camera make it a tool for serious use. When referring to 'the nature' of the camera, I'm thinking of the fact that it can't be used handheld (has to be on a tripod or steadycam) and isn't exactly the most user-friendly device. On the positive side, picture quality is excellent and the choice of frame rates more than you could wish for. So altogether, it's the kind of camera you may want to use for studio-based recordings or very carefully controlled outdoor shots, but not for your holiday clips.

Supposing for a moment, the candy red edition had been around in 2011 when I was looking for a kind of professional Super 8 camera: would I have bought it then? Possibly. But not because of the red colour, rather despite it.

These newly painted bodies were a thing for a while here on the forum too. Eric Martin Jarvies did some work on these.
The forum is getting old!

I myself painted a 4008 bright yellow after doing a maintenance jon on it.
Kept the original camera set-up though. Looked really nice.

I wanted brown or dark green leatherettes on it but then the grip would remain black and I wasn't too sure how well that would look.

The pro8 thing is just too much. Apparently there are prospects who think it will be an attribute to their camera collection.
Kind regards,

André
