processing labs in UK

Post by mr8mm »

Are there processing labs in the UK that will process B/W reversal double 8mm such as ORWO UN54? E6? or is everything sent to ANDEC in Berlin? Or Reversal Lab in Netherlands? John S.

It looks like no.w.here and gaugefilm are the only British lab left that do b&w (that is if they really process in-house):

http://www.gaugefilm.co.uk/store/p21/50 ... vice_.html

However this lab does 16mm, so they should be able to process double8 as well:

I went on their website and I couldn't see anything about processing?

I can safely say that Kevin at Gauge film does all the processing in house, He also does workshops where you film and process your own film in a lomo tank.

Looks like you're correct. Their page only says: "We offer a full overnight dailies service for both 16mm and 35mm film". But they don't mention a lab or processing. :-(
( http://sohofilmlab.com/ used to be a lab. As http://sohofilmlab.com/ is now redirecting to http://www.encorepost.co.uk/ , I thought that they've only been renamed...)

Can confirm that Gauge Film (they have a website and advertise on that auction site) do their own processing and will do both colour reversal (E6) and BW reversal. You can also take films to the Widescreen Centre shop in central London, although they send all processing out elsewhere.

As an alternative, if you are handy with film chemistry and have the time and notion, movie film can be processed in a Lomo tank with good results.

Coming back to John's original question about labs processing B/W reversal double 8mm, I'm not aware of any lab other than Andec that provides this service on my side of the Atlantic.

I posted this question because I have customers in the UK. I know some send to USA labs but I thought if this service is provided in the UK I would direct customers to the UK labs.

So you do indeed! Somehow the fact you do double 8 processing (or Standard 8 / Regular 8 / and whatever else people call it) has completely passed my by - although, having now looked through your website, you must have done this for at least a couple of years. Ah well, at least I know now!

Had my first roll of E6 processed by Kevin (Gauge Film) a short while ago and his processing is second to none. I can tell no difference between his and the service offered by Andec and Dwaynes.

I would have few doubts that the B&W reversal is as good.

B&W reversal of double 8 is easy if you have a spiral tank, they come up for auction quite regularly. However it is still quite time consuming.

Anyone know of a UK lab who process Fomapan R double 8? It uses different chemistry to most B&W reversal films.

I'd like to know this. I've some Foma DS8 to shoot as well. And some 16mm.

And while I'm at it is there anywhere in UK processing 35mm stills on Foma in Foma developers. I presume their Czech shop is still going?

If you haven't try Prestech they might be able to process Fomapan and try Nowhere Lab, additionally try some still photography labs like AG photographic they might be able to help.

Thanks Angus! It's cool to know we're in the running with the labs that use the machines!

On the Foma note. We process it with D-19 :)
