I just picked up one of these amazingly small Super 8 cameras at an estate sale. It's size makes it perfect to take on hiking trips, etc. The only problem I have is figuring out what size battery it takes since I don't have the manual. Supe8data says it takes a single 2.7 V button cell.

It looks like it would almost take two PX-13 batteries. If anyone has any information on this camera or any experience with it your input would be greatly appreciated. I like taking small cameras like this hiking and Kayaking, especially if I only spent $4 on it I'm not to worried about damaging it. This may become my go-to camera for that stuff.

...basically, the larger 2.7v is simply two 1.35 v batteries stacked with a slight spacer. However, all of that is obsolete. And mercury had excellent properties for a light meter battery...near constant voltage until the bitter end when it dies...unlike alkaline that is two high to start and drops down and continues to fade over its life. Luckily, in this day and age it is easier than ever to make some kind of alternative arrangement. Good luck.

Re: Konica Compact 8 Batteries
Thanks for the info Super8man. I just put a Wein Cell 1.35V PX-13 replacement battery in it and it seems to be metering properly. There was only room for one battery so I think the Super 8 Data page is wrong, it should say 1.35 volt not 2.7 volt. I don't think there ever was a single 2.7 volt battery that was the same thickness as a 1.35 volt. Like Super8man said, the PX-14 battery was the same thickness as two PX-13 batteries. The Super8Wiki page says it takes one 1.5 volt battery so one of them has to be wrong:

I'll be shooting a roll this weekend so I guess we'll find out when I get it back from the lab.

Re: Konica Compact 8 Batteries
While you're at it there's another problem with the Super8wiki page. In the comments it says "The Compact 8 doesn't have an internal filter switch, but a slot on the top of the camera. Insert the provided metal plate into the slot to turn on or off the filter". It does have an internal filter switch in addition to the slot on the top.
Re: Konica Compact 8 Batteries
Where? There's no such switch visible on the photos shown on http://www.emtus.ch/konica_compact_8.html (or on other photos of this camera)?!BAC wrote:It does have an internal filter switch in addition to the slot on the top.

Re: Konica Compact 8 Batteries
It's the little button in the film compartment that is depressed by the cartridge if the cartridge is notched properly. I was testing it on my camera last night and it moved the filter away when it was depressed. I believe that's what they are referring to when they say "internal" filter switch.
By the way Jörg, thanks for making the changes.

Re: Konica Compact 8 Batteries
So there's really no switch to manually turn off the internal filter. However you're correct that the old comment was a little bit vague: it was unclear whether an "internal filter" or "internal switch" was meant. Therefore I modified it a little bit.BAC wrote:It's the little button in the film compartment that is depressed by the cartridge if the cartridge is notched properly.
