Canon Scoopic 16MS - crystal sync!

Post by calgodot »

I'm selling my Canon Scoopic 16MS.

The camera features 24fps crystal sync, installed by Alan Gordon (http://www.alangordon.com). The camera has been well-maintained, operates without failure, and is in excellent condition. The Scoopic is a great 16mm camera for S8ers or beginners, as it has a quick-load feature that makes loading film as easy as threading a projector!

The Scoopic MS is capable of shooting 400-foot loads with the proper adapter. I've already sold my adapter and magazines some time ago, as I never had any use for 400-foot loads. Adding all that extra stuff triples the weight of the camera, and disables one of the best features of the Scoopic: its quick load capability for 100-foot daylight spools. The few shoots I did with this thing (B-cam on music videos mostly) people were amazed at how fast the camera would load. (With practice, one can unload and load the Scoopic faster than one can load and unload a tape in a DV camera.)

Also included with the camera is an external battery (12v w/xlr connector: works on other cameras as well) purchased from Duall in NY, along with an adapter cable (the power connector on the Scoopic MS is a Burndy receptacle) purchased from the Film Group.

(I've also got some film that was never shot, various stocks and lengths and ages, some of it ancient, which I'll throw in. Also a copy of the Professional Camera Operators manual that has excellent info on the Scoopic, along with a repair manual with schematics, and a rather inadequate carrying case. Some filters, both threaded and in-camera, as well. Lots of stuff. A real grab bag of goodies.)

Answer to the most likely FAQ: No, the Scoopic cannot be converted to Super16mm. But it can shoot single or double sprocket 16mm film.

Info on the camera can be found all over the web. But here's a link to a good data page:

I'm posting this here rather than on on eBay first because I'd like the camera to go to one of you fine small-gauge filmmakers. My desired price range is somewhere in the neighborhood of $1200-1500 US. Preference is for Paypal, as it is speedy, reliable, and gives both buyer and seller added security in transactions. But since we're all friends and quasi-family in the small-gauge community, I'll also take money orders (and will even consider a check, if the buyer wants to wait that long for your check to clear - it can take my stupid bank up to 2 weeks, longer if it's not a domestic bank).

There. I don't think I've left anything out. Email or message (via this board) me with any questions or offers. If I haven't sold the camera via this forum in a few days, I'll post it to eBay.
