Where to get 16mm magazines?

I have recently been given a 1930s Cine Kodak Magazine camera which takes 16mm magazines. I know Kodak haven't offered film in these for some time, but does anyone know anywhere that sells them, loads them or offers them loaded?

I seem to remember someone offering them loaded with black and white film once, but a web search is proving fairly fruitless.

If you load your own, they are often for sale on eBay sometimes in a lot of ten or so.
If you send a magazine in to be processed by a lab, make sure you get the magazine back, the entire magazine mind you, especially the two micro screws that hold the cover on. Labs tend to lose those screws and it makes the magazine unusable since the screws are impossible to find.

One thing that really annoyed me was when I sent in 4 of those 16mm Magazines ( i think that it was to switzerland) back in 2004, two of them came back with the little brass ratchet broken off. Like they were in such a hurry that they just ripped the thing open like a gorrilla! I don't know if the brass ratched is necessary for the operation of the magazine. But it sure made me mad!

I have a B&H that takes the 50' magazines. Got two brand new unoped ones with the camera. Loaded with old K11 Kodachrome. I want to use E100D in them but there's no double perf 100D unless you use R8 DP.

Not at all cheap but good quality. The most affordable way is to load your own of course from 100' daylight reels. Or any other length of course that you can get in 2R. I've yet to use mine and not so sure I ever will Might just sell the cam and magazines.

I've loaded my own for years. I had a bid stash of 50 ft loads of Plus-X negative stock that was on the cores for the 50 foot magazine so it was easy. I made a simple daylight loading box out of a 100ft Kodak plastic box their daylight 100ft loads of 16mm film comes in. This allows loading the magazine with the lights on so you can be sure of the threading which is ultra-critical. Then the magazine, lid, and film is placed in a loading bag where I remove the film roll from the plastic box, place it on the supply spindle in the magazine, and then put the lid on. I put the two screws holding the mag cover on in the light. Works great. I had always planned to make a device to create the 50ft loads onto the supply cores, looks like I will need to get around to it soon as I'm down to my last few magazine loads of Plus-X. There is just something cool about some of the 50ft magazine cameras and they are fun to use.

Can you not unload the carts in a change bag and then send them off on a spool to be developed?

That is the way I had to do it with Summit Film Lab, now closed. Results were excellent.
Call the lab first. DIY 50'/100' spool to be sure you keep all parts.

I've got a number of these mags still sealed in their kodak packaging containing Colour neg film!!!

Preety crazy stuff.

I guess the best thing to do would be to treat them like 16mm mags on the bigger cameras and load them and unload them for processing.

That way you could quickly switch filmstocks during your shoot too.

The trouble is that these mags are double perf only so you can't reload them with the single perf film that is common these days.

I'd be up for selling some of them if someone wants to get some weird, experimental, ancient film look! (or reload them with something more sensible!)

Damn! Missed them as I was away! Though if they're going for 99p I'm sure they'll come up again (or I might bite the bullet and get some shipped from the 'States).

Just wondering then, what films are still available in 100ft double perf loads? I think I'll try and get some empty carts and a changing bag and "roll my own". Is this easy to do, by the way?

Good news from my trip though- ran some Wittner V50D in my Bauer, which always has trouble with thicker stocks (Pro8 stocks just seize the thing up) and it ran smoothly the whole way. No jamming, no jitter. It was a full 50ft too. I suspect that Wittner lubricates the film well. It looks like the European Velvia market is finally secure with a quality product.
