I would have to agree with you, Chris. I am amazed at how sensitive the s8mm cameras are to vignetting. I have an external 85B and an ND filter on my Nizo and I get vignetting. It sucks, but I will have to sell these filters and buy larger ones. Anyone interested in a brand new 85B and ND .4 multi coated? I'll sell the pair for $40.
With tax it's well over $800. Still seems pretty steep. But if this is the closest things to a new super8 camera--especially a camera that will properly expose all of the available stocks--then maybe it's worth it.Chris Cottrill wrote:IT'S HERE AND ONLY $795
Seems like a pretty damn good price.
Quote from the latest newsletter:
The Pro814 Camera Package is available for $795.00 and includes the Pro814 Camera,
Pelican Camera Case, 2- Meter Batteries, Filter Step-Up to 77mm ,Metal Lens cap (77MM), 85 A Filter (77MM) .
If it was an 814XL-S, I'd say it's totally worth it. But an 814AZ, an obsolete camera with an obsolete light meter, even recalibrated is not worth what they're asking. Though I really couldn't care less about the light meter. I just assume they disable it along with the 85 filter.
I may sound stupid, but I hide it well.

The Bauer S715-XL would have been a better camera...instead of buying cameras that lived a hard life in the USA, I would have insisted on German-owned Bauers, particularly the 715 with a modified film metering system, and bought up everyone ever listed over the past 10 years...the lens is incredible...And yes, the 814XLS would have been the superior choice too. But hey, at least we get to see more "stars" buying these things to shoot some home movies while they are on location...is Pro8 going to offer the camera in collector colors like the Beaulieu?
