line of action

Post by Boo »

can someone please help me to get this straight?

The thumbnailed storyboard can be found here:

http://www.visualdojo.com/SB.html

So if you take a look at the images, it starts WIDE,

the head of person number one turn his head left/ screen left to watch the floating man across the cockpit window. we CUT to a CLOSE UP of person one: his face is looking screen Right at OS floating man.

He lthen looks to his RIGHT/ screen LT- we then CUT to the rear shot again and he's looking to his rt Screen RT.

Is the Camera direction on this correct? Where is the line of action in each scene? Does the line of action change when the man floating across the cockpit window move OS screen LEFT?

I've been looking around for examples like this, but haven't been able to find any samples exactly like this one.

thanks ahead of time for your help!

make a floor plan, draw a line from the person acting, through the person or object he interacts with. that's it.
Does the line of action change
every time a character or object moves, or another character starts acting, or the same on another object or character. draw a new line every time you're not sure. very often you can find a camera placement that's always on the right side of all the lines in the scene, otherwise you'll have to create moves to make the transition, either the characters or the camera. or limit your cutting options a certain way, or shoot plenty of cutaways, or simply rely on jumpcutting.

good luck,
