I think the LOWER picture is the cellphone one. It's got a lot more grain and a bit too much contrast. The colors appear to be more natural at first but it also looks like the two pictures were taken in very different lighting conditions (sun vs. clouds, as well as the direction both the boat and the camera were pointing at the time).
So who wins? 8)

The top is from your phone, the bottom is your camcorder. But why are you posting comparison tests of still photos captured with a telephone and a video camera? ;)
Wouldn't it be more appropriate to compare apples to apples and perhaps post a comparison of a DSLR vs. an SLR?

heh, top image is cellular ericsson 750i underneath is pc120.
the actual wheather conditions are not that different seen from the sun.
chip size holds approx the same amount of pixels.
on my mac the cell phone looks better in every which way.
have you checked the full size images by clicking on them?
just posted them as a curiosity to show how quick cell phones catch up.
possible to get 3gb memory sticks for it - actually holds quite a bit of video too!
including a pretty good mp3 player with rather fab sound (no ear plugs then) and radio?
ill be happy to get back to the boat later.
it was quite recently built by my uncle but hes now old so he have it to me to take care of it

"catch up" to the image quality of an interlaced video frame? Uh...yeah ;)

no, it is a still photography frame 1360 x 1020 pix (1.4 mpix) - not a interlaced video "frame"
dual function video cam.
the ericsson offers 1632 x 1224 pixels.

Bloody hell. 8O So I was both right and wrong - the top picture is the better-quality one, but I didn't think that it would belong to the camera phone. Wow! I was judging on past experiences with cellphone pictures that are already way outdated, it seems. Their image quality sure has increased in immense ways. I'm impressed. 8)

Still, comparing the still feature of a video camera to a much newer cell phone or dedicated camera is unrealistic...

the pc120 was introduced in 2001 basically a mere 4 years ago so i dont think the comparisation is way off to show the cellular phone cam capacity progress.
the 120 was a significant upgrade from previous model on the ccd side and a lot of other features.
the 750i was introduced in 2005.
just compare the 700i vs the 750i for that matter.
holds like an ordinary camera. release button right - zoom left.
according to this magazine link 90% of all digital images captured today worlwide are taken with cell camz:

but analog is till bigger than digital.
[UPDATE] curiosity:
samsung offers cellular with 7mpix: chv770 with add on lenz:
